Information on transportation and moving around within Cameron Highlands. Useful information to plan your trip

There is only one main road connecting the highlands from Ringlet to Kampung Raja and most of the towns and attractions are located along this road or a short walk from the main road. Only the bigger attractions like the Boh Tea Palntations are located few kilometres away from the main road.

Travelling around Cameron Highlands can be much ease if you have your own transport however this is not possible for everyone. Depending on what you want to see and where you want to go, you can still move around to do all the touristy things during your trip.

Local Bus Service

Local public buses is almost non-existent here with only 1-2 buses plying the route and the timing is also not reliable.

Car Rental

There are no car rental Services in Cameron Highlands. You may be able to find services offered on the web however do remember that this are un-licenced services. If you do want to rent a car, its recommended to do it at reputable companies located in the main city like Penang and Kuala Lumpur.

Motorbike Rental

Moving around in motorbikes are getting popular among the younger generations and the backpackers. Motorbike rentals are available at the following places in Tanah Rata:

  • CS Travel & Tours (Located along the main street beside Jasmine Café)
  • Tourist Information Centre (Located on the main street near the Convent School)
  • TJ Nur Travel & Tours (Located beside Travellers Pub)

Note : All the rental agencies above are located very close to each other

Rental rate starts from minimum RM20 for 2 hours to RM150 maximum for 24 hours. Do check with the individual rental agencies for their rates.

Taxi Service

Taxi service can be found mainly In Tanah Rata and Brinchang. You may find it hard to flag down a taxi at any other locations. Your hotel or guest house would be able to call you a taxi.

In Tanah Rata, you can find the taxi's at the bus station and at the Tourist Information Centre. During busy times, you can easily flag one down on the street here. In Brinchang, the taxi stand is located along the main road near KFC.

Taxi rates can vary depending on the season. Eg. from pickup from any Tanah Rata hotels to Brinchang may cost RM10 during normal season and double that during peak season.

You can also hire a taxi on a hourly rate or RM40 per hour with a minimum of 3 hours. Additional hours may be cheaper and you can negotiate with the driver.

Your hotel or guest house would be able to arrange the taxi transport for you if asked.

Local Tours

If you do not have transport or do not want the hassle of renting a bike or taxi, you can opt to hop on one of the local tours. You will be able to see and experience the tourist spots.
