CH's Top Eateries 2006 5 Years, 9 Months ago
It’s been a year since we conducted a poll on your favorite eating spots in Cameron Highlands. We are doing it again this year! Tell us what should be on our list this year and why. We will compile it into a Top-5 Places to Eat in Cameron Highlands (or Top 10 depending on the number of eateries).
Each eatery will get a framed certificate from us stating that they are in the Cameron Highlands Top 5 Restaurants for 2006.

To kick things off, here are my personal favourites. (Which will not count in the final tally for obvious reasons)

1. T-Cafe (Tanah Rata) - Apple Pie and Scones. Great atmosphere.
2. Palm Leaf Cafe (Brinchang) - Good Thai food.
3. Suria Restaurant (Tanah Rata) - A wide selection of Indian food.
4. The Japanese restaurant beside Ambank in Tanah Rata. (Cant remember the name) - Didnt really try the japanese dishes but the regular fried stuff is good. Free WIFI too.

Cheers

Dear Admin,

It would be good if you could provide info on Top Eateries that serves halal food. Hopefully, the definition of halal is not only 'no pork no lard'.
Thanks.

1.T Cafe tanah Rata
very good atmosphere with a mixture of local and foreign tourists. Great fresh tea and scones, haven't tried the apple pie yet.

2. All the Malay Gerais between Zainab Sam and Gerai Opah. They don't serve lunch, Gerai OPah just breakfast. It is extremely good value, about RM 3 for fried meehoon and RM 1 for a whole bag of hot fried bananas. Dishes served in an esthetically pleasing manner. Yong Taufu is most delicious compared with the price I paid for. When I'm not mistaken it is all halal.

3. Bunga Suria
Indian vegetarian food served in banana leaves very appealing

4. Western Breakfast: Bala's Chalet for western breakfast and curries. A bit pricy but very good quality and somewhat exclusive interior decoration, special western ambience with Indian touch. Cameronian Inn has western and local breakfast, some small dishes like fried rice with great atmosphere and a lot more affordable in price

5. HOng Kong and Mayflower(about the same level) for steamboat. Served with a lot of vegetables, noodles, fish balls, fish, prawns, all ingredients fresh. Very friendly owner. Other Chinese dishes and good Chinese breakfast

Post edited by: christine, at: 2006/08/10 14:18

My choice

1. T-cafe : Uncle George friendly personality!
2. Bunga Suria : Excellent Indian vegetarian food
3. Hong Kong : Delicious steamboat

I frequent these three outlets when ever I visit Cameron. Average one visit a month to Cameron since the seventies which happened to be my favourite holiday destination in Malaysia. Cool and nice......

1. nasi kerabu pasar malam brinchang
2. lunch at secret recipe
3. mee udang at secret recipe
4. steam boat at tanah rata
5. scones and tea at cameron valley

I guess we already know which is going to be the winning eatery... hahaha

My vote:

1. T-Cafe - atmosphere, quality of food and service
2. T-Cafe (hehe... )
3. T-Cafe (hehehe... )
4. Mayflower - steamboat, individual chinses dishes, reasonable food quality and price
5. Jap Restaurant (next to AmBank) - free Wi-Fi

Here's my personal opinion for the consideration of The Chief/Admin:

Maybe it isn't such a good idea to list eateries like Secret Recipe in your final list, if such establishments make it to the final list in the first place (NO OFFENCE to you, KNizam. I can perfectly understand your predicament).

You see, I think the list should constitute eateries unique to CH only. Secret Recipe is just another franchise chain, which outlets could be found in most parts of the country. In short, one doesn't have to go to CH to enjoy Secret Recipe. The list should only constitute 'products' of CH only, those that cannot be found elsewhere, or at least have its origins rooted in CH.

Cheers,
Steven

Hi Guest & Fish,

Both the Mayflower Restaurant & Hong Kong Restaurant is situated opposite the Regal/Kurnia Bistari Bus Station in Tanah Rata.

Their Chicken/Clear soup Staemboat is priced at RM 12.00 per-person & their Ying-Yang(mix with either Tom Yum soup or Herbal soup) is priced at RM 15.00 per-person.

P.S. : Please take note that there is another Hong Kong in Brinchang.

Hi, I'm planning a trip next week. Can anyone also recommend a good Chinese vegetarian restaurant and a hotel that is near the restaurant?

Thanks very much
