1,Down Town Cafe, Tanah Rata-Spend some of my best time there, and the waitress just so sweet, always spend my lunch there each time i visit Cameron.

2.(No Idea The name-A small restaurant in front of Merlin Inn, a part of the Golf) Run by a uncle, they didn't serve any good food or tea, but the place seem very nice specially for the mid-way back packer who walk from Tanah Rata to Brinchang, who come across a heavy rain--Me.

3.(in front of Rosa-Pasadena, a chinese uncle own restaurant-beside chicken rice restaurant) their food is good and what amaze me is that they have varieties of menu from western to chinese cuisine, also a place for my each visit.

4.(Again I forget the name, own by Chua Gin, in front of Brinchang Mosque) they serve Chinese food, their Asam fish is great, used to stay there and eat there, Their steamboat also very nice, some more got discount for the hotel customer.

5.The counter restaurant at Palas Tea Factory, definitely not because of the food, but the atmosfere there, if the food is good I'll put it in first place, they only have some light snacks like cacake and biscuit, and serve with tea of course, last time all the waitress was India girl, but now no more..

OK, hope that some one can help me on the - don't know the name part and find out for me, great day.

Regards,
Lew

Here my personal top 5.

1)Gerai Opah (Tanah Rata) ~ Very good Kampung Nasi Lemak for breakfast.

2)Restaurant Sakaya (Brinchang) ~ one of the best lunches for economy rice with lots of green vegetables. Restaurant You Hoo is another good choice, but always crowded.

3)Highlands Restaurant (Brinchang) ~ Famous for their traditional charcoal Steamboat.

4)Zainab Sam (Tanah Rata) ~ Fantastic Malay food with ulam & sambal Belacan. Always very busy but reasonable priced.

5)Restoran No.14 (Tanah Rata) ~ Still is the best outlet serving South Indian food in the Highlands, minus the attitude & service.

Bon Apetite!

P.S: The places I’ve mention above are not posh places, but serves very good food.

I haven't been to any restuarant in Brinchang yet, so at the moment only recommend the ones at Tanah Rata:
1.KHS(spelled correctly?) Taman sedia:
Has a strawberry farm and fantastic strawberry icecream with topping and fresh strawberries for just RM 2. Friendly and natural people

2.Gerai Opah for breakfast only. Nasi lemak and mil coffee for just RM 2.50

3.Zainab Sam:
Just tried the beehoon goreng, very tasty, not fatty, well cooked and served. Seafood, vegies, chicken, bean sprouts, chillis, reasonabe portion for just RM 3

4.All the restaurants in the same row as Zainab Sam and Gerai Opa are recommendable, not posh but clean. Next to Zainab Sam is a Chinese Sotong and Yong Taofu place, then fresh chargrilled Satay ayam for Rm 0,50.

More to come and tonight will try Mayflower for steamboat

Here my recent favourites:

1. Zainab Sam Tanah Rata
Very reasonably priced just to mention their Meehoon goreng(fried vermicelli) with a little prawns, squid, much chicken and fresh vegies for RM 3,--. All dishes very well cooked and served, it is also food for the eyes. The best teh tarik with foam on top and not too sweet without needing to tell them.

2.Highlands Restaurant Brinchang for charcoal steamboat. HOng KOng Tanah Rata is as good but not chargrilled

3. Satay stall in the middle of the Brinchang night market, 40 c/stick and very tasty and spicy

4. REstaurant NO. 14
Serves set meat and vegetable curries.Large plate of rice, papadums, vegies and meat, very nicely served. NOt to forget the Malay food like bamee or kampung nasi goreng with chilli, prawns and ikan bilis for RM 4,00. Good coffee and teh tarik for 80 c a small glass. Service improved now after I came regularly

5. KHM Strawberry farm
9 Jl. Taman Sedia
Homemade strawberry icecream with 4 strawberries for RM 2.50

Recommandation:

1. The Morning/ Noon Session noodles shop (without signboard, but next to the OK TUCK Restaurant) -->> Wan Tan Noodle n Prawn Noodle. Brinchang.

2. Another 'no-sign board' restaurant, Next to the Hotel Rossapasadena, or Palm Leaf Cafe, or opposite to the Public Bank. Food: BBQ Pork Rice, fragent and kind of crispy (Note: only Noon Session). Brinchang.

3. Palm Leaf Cafe. Tom Yum Noodle. Brinchang.

4. Country Lodge steamboat. A bit more expensive, but very nice soup base. Brinchang.

5. Highlands Restaurant--> traditional CHARCOAL steamboat, Brinchang. I think counldn't find it anywhere else. i think.

But beware of FUN LAM restaurant and Kuan Kee Restaurant. CUT THROAT.

Enjoy the delicious food.

There is restaurant called the YooHoo @ Brinchang. It has some dishes and there was a write by the Star Newspaper. Their signature dish are the Assam fish, pork trotters and one more I can't remember.

My favourite simple meal would be T-cafe with its scones, pancakes and cha-koay-teow. But I still like the Lakehouse scones better eventhough it is more costly. I think there are some more comments about other good scones elsewhere. Will have to try it out again someday.

Oh, not to mention, the Highland Restarant, besides its popular charcoal steamboat, they also serve the fish head/paste (forgot the correct name) beehun noodle which is quite popular too.

Can someone please give me the exact location of the top 5 eateries: T-Cafe, Highland Restaurant, Restoran 14, Zainab Sam and Gerai Opah? I would like to try them all on next visit to Cameron Highlands on 10th and 11th Sep. Tanah Rata/Brinchang can be a big place when one is driving around looking for a particular restaurant! I'll be staying at the Lakehouse. Would the hotel staff be able to direct me to these places?

Thanks.

All these places are easy to find. There is only one main road in Tanah Rata and Brinchang. Wouldn't take that long to find them. They are all located on the main street. If these small towns are too big for you...

Well, you may feel kinda embarrassed asking for direction when they are just within sight...
1) T-Cafe - upstairs of Merrybrown fast food restaurant, oppsite the taxi depot.
2) Highland Rest. - Jasmine Hotel downstairs.
3) Rest.14 - have not been there, will go there this week and find out...
4) Zainab Sam & Gerai Opah - in the food court opposite the post office.

And please, don't ask where is Merrybrown, Post office, Taxi depot,etc...

Hi Jan,

Have you tried the pasta at T-Cafe? It is really good too, at least I think so... The one I normally go for is the Tuna Spaghetti... or whatever the name is... it comes with a generous sprinkling of tuna bits... that is, if tuna is to your liking.

Cheers,
Steven
