Hi kl,
The Lakehouse remains my favorite rather than The Smokehouse coz:
- Cost less than the Smokehouse
- Rooms are better maintained and more organized as it was built for the purpose of an Inn
- the staffs are friendlier in general and are slightly better trained as they are
managed by a big professional hotelier - The Concord group, vs the
Smokehouse which are run by a family.
- more space to roam ie grounds / gardens bigger
But if you prefer a more authentic place - it would be the Smokehouse,
though i find it a bit crampy as the layout is more like a private home/cottage -
but the decor/knick knack are more, older & more authentic - Lakehouse is just 32yrs old but the Smokehouse was built back in the 20's or earlier i think.
as for the food between these 2 boutique hotels - here's a secret i found out:
the Chef at Lakehouse was trained / apprenticed by the Chef at the Smokehouse
so : Lakehouse = Student , Smokehouse = Teacher
But I find both are good - with individual styles
another secret : the chefs are uncle/nephew
As for the Strawberry Park - it is more of a commercial hotel rather than a boutique hotel.
So - hope this helps you decide.
regards.
ps. will be nice if you could share your experience once you come back from CH.
