Great Time at Camerons! - 2004/01/04 20:25 Dear All, (especially to Jade, Terrano, Neo & Jay)
just got back from Camerons on the 3rd Jan. Have to say, we enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Our journey started from Singapore to Senai early in the morning (at 545am!) to catch the Air Asia plane up to KLIA.
From there, we rented a car to drive up to Camerons. Have to say, I enjoyed the drive up very much, especially the windy roads from Tapah to Tanah Rata! Call me a weirdo, but the drive up was really fun! All in all, the journey took us 8hrs from S’pore to CH.

Thanks, Jade, for your contribution. I took up your suggestion to go and have tea/scones at the Bharat Tea Plantation. Was really had a pleasant experience and the view from the tea house was awe inspiring. Maybe it was the large contrast between hectic S'pore life and the quiet, serene environment in CH. Definitely a must-do in CH.
The tea there was not bad, and tat goes for the scones as well. Only thing was, the servings was rather small for ppl like us. (4 of us, 2 couples with ravishing appetite!) As a bonus, I even met a hometown fren from Perak which I have not seen for ages! Talk about the world being small!

Also, we went hunting for the Strawberry Farm at Taman Sedia. As what Jade said, the strawberries there did not let us down…..definitely sweeter that the local breeds I’ve tried. Thanks again to Jade for the “insider’s info”. The jam was really good too! You could still see chunks of strawberry in the jam. The Bangladeshi worker there (which speaks fluent Malay) was really funny and kept on saying that their strawberries were the “No. 1 in Malaysia”. No disputes there as he kept giving us free samples! :o)

We stayed at Strawberry Park. Not a bad place, looks really nice on the outside, but the inside is a bit old. (although clean). The balcony for each unit is a very good idea. Just great for sitting by the balcony, reading the papers and sipping on a piping-hot cup of tea. One thing though, some of the lights in the room were spoilt, and same goes for my friends room. Plus the rooms were very dimly lit. So if you like a romantic setting, this is definitely a good place to be! Well, for RM93, it’s not too bad a place. Need to drive a car though, coz it’s quite a drive in from the main road.

Some of the restaurants we’ve tried :
Thanam Restaurant – This place is situated in Tanah Rata, diagonally opposite the bus station. The roti canai there is not bad. Maggi mee goreng there was good!
(That’s according to my fren who tried it! :o)

Kumar Restaurant – it’s just beside Thanam’s. At night, they serve really good Tandoori chicken. My suaku (katak di bawah tempurung) wife keeps on saying that it was really really good! For RM7, (includes hapf a chicken and a big piece of naan) I have to say it was not bad.

Downtown restaurant – also along the same street, further down. They have this set lunch for RM38 (for 4 persons). Not bad….the venison (deer meat) was very nice. The fresh strawberry juice served here is really good too! Must try…..

Hongkong restaurant – as usual, along the main road of Tanah Rata. The steamboat here is not bad. RM13 per person for the herbal soup version. Very sumptious….could not finish the servings.

Other stuff we did worth mentioning :
There’s this archery store along Tanah Rata main road. We had a fun session of trying to follow Legolas ( Lord of the Rings). The cost is RM 10 for 24 arrows. Cool…..

We did a jungle path ( No.4) since we were beginners. No.4 is the easiest route I think.
It starts beside the new Century Pines which is opposite the Police station in Tanah Rata. The route was a nice morning exercise, with lotsa fresh air and nice scenery. The Parit falls was a good site for photo taking. Sad thing was we spotted quite a bit of rubbish in the river. Sigh…
The path exits near the Taman Sedia exit to the main road.

Well, that’s my 2 cents worth our visit to Camerons. The rest of the details are not worth mentioning! :oP

As for the locals like Terrano & Jay, and seasoned travelers like Neo, this is probably boring stuff to you guys!

cheers,
Horlicks. (forgot to order this drink in CH!)
