1 day Cameron Experience - 2007/05/02 00:16 My hubby and I just came back from Cameron Highlands. We only had 1 day at Cameron Highlands but overall, it was a good quick getaway.

Journey from Singapore to Cameron Highlands

We took the Konsortium bus from Golden Mile Complex - it left for Malaysia punctually at 10.30pm. We arrived Tapah at 6.30am and Tanah Rata at 8.30am. The ride and perhaps lack of sleep caused nausea and giddiness when we alighted. But of course, the fresh and cool air soon made us forget the discomfort.

We left our luggage at Century Pines as the rooms were not ready yet. We bought the map at RM4, just in case. We then set off for our day's journey.

    Morning

We had breakfast at Tanah Rata Restaurant Sheng Ming - Wah Ta Hor and Fried Seafood, both were yummy ! My hubby also tried the Naan at No.25 Restoran Sri Brinchang. It was a big piece, hot and came with curry and mint leaves mix at only RM1.50. We then walked to the taxi stand and booked an old Merz taxi (since 1965) at RM20 per hour - the indian uncle is friendly - if u don't have transport like us, can look out for his taxi AG 5515.

We set off for our 1st destination - Sg Palais BOH tea centre ! We stopped at a scenic spot for photo taking - the weather was just perfect. Then moved on to the tea centre. Had tea at the tea house which overlook the great scenery. Bought the Chocolate Mint BOH Tea and Orchard Plus Iced Tea from tea shop. Uncle got his free Iced tea at the tea house - he says it's free for drivers only. We left at about 12pm.

    Afternoon

We then head to Kea Farm and market. There was mini jams along the way becos of the two-way traffic and narrows roads.

I bought lots of stuff at this market - Dried Kiwi/Bergamot/Strawberry, oranges, love fruit, Dried pink baby breath and fresh strawberry jam. Yippee !

Happy with the purchases, we then walked to Hotel Equatorial for our lunch. We also booked their shuttle at 2.45pm back to Tanah Rata at RM5 per pax per trip (round trip will be RM8-u have to arrange time and pick up pt with the bell service). We had Sirloin Steak and Pasta at the coffee house for RM60 (all inclusive-hotel price lor). They also have Curry Fish Head for 2 at RM40++.

When we reached Century Pines Resort and they had a room ready for us - pleasant service indeed ! We were puzzled why another lady complained that they had waited 2 hours for a room. Earlier at Hotel Equatorial, we also overheard the reception that they had no more rooms for the night and turned away some customers. The deluxe room is really spacious. We rested for the afternoon.

    Evening

We set off at 6pm for the highly recommended Highlands Steamboat. We reached at 6.30pm and asked for a table for 2. The auntie is great but I won't say that of the two helpers at the shop. Although we were earlier, the indian guy denied me two turns and gave the tables to bigger groups. We didn't blame him and was finally seated at 7.30pm. Later, as we were eating, we saw the same thing happened to another couple. I can't help but think he only wants to entertain groups as he can make more money per table. No matter how special or nice, I don't think I am going back there again unless my friends want to try the charcoal steamboat. The steamboat is overall good - enough ingredients and tasty soup.

We finished dinner at 8.30pm. As we walked to the main road, we saw there was night market just in front of Star Regency Hotel. Lucky us - we thot it is closed on Sunday. We ate tasty peanut cakes when walking along the night market. It was nice atmosphere and weather. At 9.30pm, we took a taxi RM7 back to hotel.

Back at the hotel, we asked for hot water - and the service was quick and two ladies came back with a big pot of hot water. We were impressed. We rested for the night.

    End

Next morning, we had breakfast at Century Pines. The inter-continental breakfast was better than expected. If u stay there, ask for Cheese mushroom omelette, it is really tasty - I had two ! I will return to stay at Century Pines. I think Brinchang is a busier town and prefer the quieter Tanah Rata. Also, there is a 24 HSBC atm or other banks and taxi stand accessible. We took the Konsortium bus back at 10.30am and reached Singapore at 8pm.

I hope my write-up gave u an idea of my journey and useful for those planning a trip there esp for the first time. Hope u enjoy Cameron, just like I did !
