Cameron Highlands 26-28 Jan 07 Tanah Rata Day 1 - 2007/02/05 13:50
Cameron Highlands 26-28 Jan 07 Tanah Rata
I wanted to get away from city, work and a place where I can bring my mum along. I tot of Cameron Highlands (CH), a place full greenaries, cool air, not too far from Singapore and affordable. It was Nov and I am planning Jan trip.
www.cameronhighlands.com is indeed a very helpful and comprehensive site. You can find a few simple maps and guides on where to stay, what to eat and how to get around. Oh yes there is also introduction to a few travel agency in CH. Someone has recommended CS Travel and had make compliments, this has make CS Travel my choice. Let's see my planned itineraries:
Took off on the 26th and 29th Jan, left on 25th evening.
25th Jan 2230 Departure
26th Jan 0700 / 0900 ETA 0900 - 1300 Rest 1400 Take shuttle bus from Equatorial to Tanah Rata to make Leisure Tour Payment 1500 Lunch at T-Cafe 1600 Robinson Fall (Blackberry Jam!!!) 1700 Walk around Tanah Rata 1800 Dinner at HK Restaurant
27th Jan 0900 - 1400 Leisure Tour 1400 - 1700 Rest 1800 Dinner at Golden Win & Night Market 2000 Head back to hotel
28th Jan Head back to SG
Actual itineraries:
25th Jan 2007 2000 Mum's friends who's a taxi driver took time to send us to where we board the coach, Golden Mile. How sweet. We had dinner and my boyfriend had rush down to pass me my MP3 which I forgot. Spoilt I am. Before dinner, I tot i would collect my coach tix, well well, 9pm.. Heh in fact i was at the wrong travel agency... When i was at the right one, I was to collect at 10
2230 Ooooh it was a nice coach with wide seat and real comfy ones. There were a few caucasian, 2 Chinese guys and a family.
2330 2nd link
0500 I felt quite awake at this time and we were at the bottom of CH. Very soon, I will be enjoying the cool air.
0700 Yipee!Reached Tanah Rata. It was a 2 hours ride up the hills. Mummy vomitted while i was dozing off. *snore Nvrtheless she always has a ointment to keep her fresh.
0730 Waited for abt half an hour for the Titiwangsa Tour Guide :I During that time we had coffee at the Hawker opposite the travel agency.
0730 - 0800 Introduction to CH and tour package. O oh! hee already have make booking w CS Travel.
0900 Equatorial Hotel! Huge lobby area and the best thing is that the coach goes straight to the hotel. If you are staying at Strawberry Park and other place, there will be a mini bus to drive you to the door step. Anyway all thx for my colleague Ken who has recommended me to Equatorial. I wanted Strawberry Park cos Equatorial doesnt sound cool.
Our bedroom was nice and clean with a beautiful scenery. The hotel that's on the highest peak. Fell asleep in the cosy bed wrapped with the thick blanket. Oink Oink.....ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzZZZ
1100 Shuttle bus was down. Had a friendly guy at the Tour Information Counter to help us to call for a Taxi. in abt 10 mins a old model of Mercedes arrived. I am very impressed by the way how the driver had kept his car so clean.. *Cleaner than most taxi in SG..
1130 The ride cost us RM 15, actual RM 13 and RM 2 for booking. Drove straight to CS Travel and make payment. Lesiure Tour at RM 20 per adult. Walk along the street of Tanah Rata. The town is smaller than I tot and I was afraid I could not find the restaurant I want to bring my mum to. T-Cafe, famous for Scones. *Slurps It was easy to find cos it's jus right above Mary Brown Fast Food Restaurant. The dishes are affordable, the people there are friendly and my mum loves the Char Kway Tiao and Spicy Fried Rice. This place left a gd impression, cos it's so nice and warm, there is a book exchange shelf where you. Interesting idea and ideal place to sip a cup of coffee and read a novel.
1300 Right after lunch, we head to Robinson Fall. Hmm.. the fall doesnt seem hard to find but the map that I bought did show the exact route to head to. One friendly guy, approached us and directed us in details. This way straight down, see the hospital and houses on your right and head right to where there houses are and you will be there.
There were 2 route one to the parit fall and the other jus nex to the bus station. Take the one nex to the bus station. You by pass a small garden, soccers field, schools... and houses high on top of the hill. There you will see "CH Hospital 500meters" signboard but you wont see the Hospital yet. Hmmmm.. we walked towards to the hospital and no houses were found. hahah In fact, when you see the Signboard, there were kampong houses and the ones on the hill top. That's where you should head to.
It was the blackberries Jam i was keen in, not the fall. Bought 10 bottles there. It's a homemade and home grown berries. Yummilicious. When you are there, it's a must buy product and share with your relative, colleagues and loved ones. They will sure love it. Cos my colleagues, is already asking when i am visiting CH again. Tot he will join me... but no, he want me to buy Jam for him.
1430 Head back to town and shop ard, and a drink at the foodcourt. Oh man, we spent less then an hour window shopping... it's too early for dinner... but nt too early for teabreak again. Right at beginning of Tanah Rata Town, there's a few shops that sell clothing and souvenirs. There you will find a bakery shop that sell lovely strawberry cheesecake. Kill some time by enjoy a slice of cake.
Nearby there's a church and convent school. If it was sunday, i would attend their Mass.
1700 Abit early thou, but we were really tired and decided to have it anyway @ HK Restaurant. Sad to say service aint too good.
After dinner we head back to hotel for a nice warm bath and had a early night.
---- Let me continue my Day 2 in the next post of my blog. I have find a great place to visit and shortcuts.

Had a good trip to Camerons with my church friends. Bought the home made blackberry jam at the small house along the way to Robinsons waterfall. Cost $5 ringgit for a 250 gm bottle. They have marmalade jam too.

It's almost a year. I have been thinking abt Cameron Highlands these days esp when I am very tied with work. Cos it;s when I long for a place like Cameron to be still. I have been picturing myself gg for a hike and the nex day reading a book at Boh tea plantations cafe that is right in the middle of the tea plantation. and i was jus wondering how to we get to Boh Tea Plantation to and fro from hotel. Cos i tot it;s easy to get a cab from hotel to Boh. What about going back to the hotel. how do u get a cab? hmmm... anyone out there knows? Guess if there's a way, i hope to visit Cameron in the near future. Ahhhh~~ reading a book in the midst of the tea plantation, nice & cooling air. Away from work, away for Microsoft windows and b near to nature where i long to be.

Hi There Ling, I share the same passion with you, is been super busy for me this year and when come to this moment, I'll heading up there, throwing away my phone, lab top...name card...will be with my cup of 80 degrees BOH tea...enjoying the view, enjoying the memory and taking every minute priceless as like can't pay with visa card!!!! I'm now in Hanoi, packing to leave, will take the early flight back to Malaysia... Again, for all Cameron Lover out there, keep the faith, keep the love and protecting the place as it is, taking down trees doens't have any meaning for progress...it'll be just great the way it is, and the people.....love you, cameron.

Why does microsoft windows have to be associated with work? That shouldn't be the case at all! In fact, computers can be used for leisure or entertainment as well, for example, i had a great time checking my application for a medical course in UK, and i was totally over the moon when i got to know my IELTS score has been raised(i requested for a re-mark)through my email!! It would be even better if i could play linked computer games(DOTA, for example)with my friends! Sorry, i don't mean to pick on you, but i just think computers deserve a better image instead of being viewed as a piece of dreaded working machine.
p/s: i prefer articles on the net than reading a book..
