Our CH Trip 24-26 Nov 06 - 2006/11/28 14:12
Last weekend (24-26 Nov 06), we (myself, wife, son and parents) had our annual pilgrimage up to CH. In fact I was up there in Feb for co team building event. So this year I went up twice. We left Klang Valley at about 9.30am. Journey along the highway was smooth except for some upgrading works. Should have taken the Guthrie highway to bypass the NKVE – forgot about it. Anyway we stopped at Tapah rest area for a quick toilet break before heading up the old Tapah way. Personally I still prefer the old way as the scenery is beautiful and pleasant. There were not many cars going up and this time my wife survived the winding road ordeal.
We made a short photo session stop at Bharat before continuing our journey to Tanah Rata. We reached TR at about 2.15pm and had our lunch at The Orient. After lunch we checked in to Century Pines. Booked 2 rooms through this website. Couldn’t get SP or Heritage as I was too late in the booking. Anyway not a bad choice as it is near the town and yet privately located next to the park. Rooms were in the old wing with gardens at the ground floor. Well decorated and complete with the necessary furnishing and spacious. We brought the purple dinosaur VCD too to keep our son occupied.
We had a short nap before preparing for steamboat dinner at Brinchang. Managed to get a parking at the town centre. They have shifted the pasar malam to the opposite of Petronas. Walked around before deciding on our usual shop. Had a sumptuous steamboat but this time the portion seemed to have shrunk. Nice to have steamboat in the cold whether. Wanted to check the pasar malam but it was raining so we headed back to the hotel after buying some mineral water at Brinchang. Caught up with the latest news at the lobby. Took some more photos. Had some snacks before calling it a night.
The next morning we had a good buffet breakfast at the hotel café. Nice choice of food, simple and good. After breakfast we went to Sg Palas for some photos. Did not go in because of the heavy traffic. We turned back at the first viewpoint. Wanted to stop at Kea Farm but too crowded so we ended at a smaller nursery on the way to Brinchang before Cactus Valley. Saw some huge hibiscus here and took a few photos of it. My in-law will love the hibiscus.
After that we stopped at KHM for some strawberry ice cream. Too bad no more milk shake. Headed back to the hotel for a short rest as our son was feeling sleepy. At 4pm we walked to T Café for tea and scones. Nice food and environment – cosy. It was drizzling and we decided to check out the shops. Our son enjoyed the Yung Seng gift shop as it have his favourite turtle soft toy. Went back to the hotel to wash up before dinner. We had western food at one of the shop in Tanah Rata. Service was fast, maybe due to the low number of customer. Celebrated my father’s 63rd birthday that evening.
After dinner we drove up to Brinchang hoping to check out the pasar malam but the traffic was horrendous. At the end we turned back call it a day. I took the opportunity to check the hotel surroundings nearby. Nice cold whether.
The next morning after breakfast we headed up to Kea farm to buy some vege and the traffic was bad. Luckily we managed to get a space for parking. Bought some vege and had a difficult time getting out of the place as the vehicles kept coming in. Went back to the hotel to pack and check out. We left the hotel at about 12.30pm and proceeded to Ipoh via SP way. Reached Ipoh at about 2.30 and proceeded to old town for lunch and white coffee. Personally still preferred Hai Peng coffee. After that we made a short stop at my sister’s place before leaving Ipoh for Klang Valley at 5.30pm. It rained all the way back and this time we exited at the Guthrie Highway. Reached home finally at 8pm.
