Hi! I just want to inform everybody who visit Cameron, please do not eat at Silverstar Restaurant located at Brinchang. I just came back from Cameron yesterday. I would like to share a little of my experience in dining. When I arrive at Brinchang, me and my boyfriend planning to have a light dinner before heading to pasar malam to pick up some titbit from there. We staop by at the Silverstar Restaurant to have a steamboat. I have asked for one person steamboat and I have asked 3-4 times whether it is ok to call for only one person and also the price. The indian man (can speak chinese) did not answer me at all. Me and my boyfriend thought that it will not make any much diffent in price as we have taken steamboat the Tanah Rata (Mayflower) and it only cause RM 12 per person. The most expensive it can go is probably RM 15-18. Guess what, I have call one person steamboat and a small plate of sweet sour pork. The price that I paid for really shock me. I asked 2-3 times whether the price is for one person the son of the boss says yes it is for one person. The price that I've paid for is as below:-
Steamboat 1 person - RM 30 Sweet Sour Pork - RM 15 1 bowl of white rice & a pot of chinese tea - RM 10
TOtal : RM 55
The price of RM 30, I can it at the 5 star hotel restaurant. Gosh, this restaurant really treating us like a pig who just enter into a dangerous zone with the knife really for us.

SILVER STAR! I beg this is a restaurant NOT worth trying~! Yeah, i been there as well, it costed me RM5 for a cup of milo... I checked, there's no starbuck nor coffee bean logo printed on the cup. VERY NORMAL MILO which you can get at any kopitiam. Try it if you are RICH~

more specifically, silverstar restaurant is located directly opposite of the "balai kraf tangan" in brinchang town. However, every time I travel to cameron highland, and wat i observed was that regardless of how expensive the shop is, there are still ppl crowding in. Probably it's location is too strategic. It's just beside Chua Gin Hotel if i'm not mistaken.

Re:steamboat restaurants worth trying - 2006/12/18 00:30
hi guys
we went to try the highlands restaurant. passed by the restaurant when out tour guide drove past on our way back to brinchang.
hm, it was our first try at the steamboat in cameron highlands. hee, so not sure how the other steamboast tasted like. but we sure had fun eating at the restaurant. it was raining heavily outside, while we r busy enjoying a two-person share steamboat. so warm yet so cold =P
n the waiters there speak so perfect mandarin, they r qt friendly too =) hee, n guess tis was the meal in which we ate the most vegetables, n they taste 'sweet', hee, wonder if it's cos we'r happy eating or it's cos the vege r grown there =P
for those guys who do not noe wer the newly located highland restaurant is. it's near brinchang, from golden win restaurant, walk down n make a left turn, n u will see the restaurant. i'm sure the ladyboss would love to see her old customers coming to visit her restaurant
smilezzz huilin

Re:steamboat restaurants worth trying - 2006/12/22 00:11
caffy, are you sure you are talking about the right restaurant? I have been to cameron highlands many times this year and past and in fact I have tried almost all the restaurants at Brinchang and Tanah Rata and I find that although Silverstar might not be the cheapest but it is definitely the most consistent in their pricing, including that they are the most delicious. Their vege are very clean compare to all the other restaurants I went to. In fact I have tried many other places where their steamboat price is between 12 to 18 ringgit but the amount of food that they serve is only worth 5 ringgit (Kwan Kee for example). I find that Silverstar prices are very consistent with their menu and advertising (which I think was between 15 - 20 per person, depending on season) but the amount of food that we get was well worth it. My and my husband and our friends at for a ful 1.5 hours and could not finish everything. I hope you can clarify your misunderstang with Silverstar and I am sorry that you had such a different experience from us.

r u sure that u can actually get a steamboat at a 5 star place for #30? what decade are living in, 1935? A decent steamboat at any 5 star hotel will at least cost $50 per person. I think u might want to go out to eat more often and do a little survey before posting on this site.
