My CH Trip on FT day weekend - 2006/05/11 16:13 It was just 2 years ago which I've visited CH. But the last time, I stayed in the MNS tea plantation quarters so it was a totally different expenrience than this round. This time - I stayed right smack in the middle of Brinchang. On this peak season, I was charged RM250 per night @ Rosa Passadena.

Started journey from KL around 9:30. It was a cloudy day so it was a rather nice ride along the NSE on my myvi. Took the Tapah exit and up on the old road. Quite nice, not many buses or lorries which I need to overtake. It was scenic, much greenery and peace....until I reach Tanah Rata!

It was horrendous jam. Cars honking and more. Parking isn't an issue in Tanah Rata coz there's a parking complex. Good thinking. Had chicken rice for lunch. It's clever how indian restaurant owner hire chinese chicken rice sellers to attract chinese eaters. I was really looking for some chinese hawkers but no luck. Any suggestion?

After lunch, it was up to Brinchang and to my hotel. Brinchang was more jam compared to Tanah Rata. There's a 'pasar tani' nearby which is often packed with people. Even at night! And because it's just a main street town, it's very packed. Rosa Passadena was right in the middle of town - right behind the Shell station. It's a good spot to stay BUT really, on a very busy weekend - you're expected (and that happened to me) to parked your car far away (5mins walk for me). The town has just grow so fast that no taught was given to the infra. But honestly, I wish Cameron was unknown so it will still retain the nice quiet getaway.

The night market in Brinchang is a must visit. There you'll actually see how honey was extracted from the honey-combs. Very interesting. Then sample some food like fried mushroom, etc.

Also, visited some strawberry farms. We didn't go much place because it's just too packed. We just skipped Rose Valley because it was just too packed. It was stop-and-go traffic from Brinchang all the way to Rose Valley.

So, We did get some fresh air over that weekend. It was OK but the busy streets and jams really spoilt it. So, for me - I'll never visit CH on a weekend. God forbids, on a long weekend.

And if I do - I'll never stay in Tanah Rata or Brinchang. No parking. I felt sad looking at the Hotel Manager's face when I was fussy about the lack of parking space.

So, admin - I'm not complaining. Just want to tell people when is the best time to go CH and where not to stay. Fair?

Re:My CH Trip on FT day weekend - 2006/05/12 12:13 The jams up at CH are mostly because of the typical
KIASU attitude of sick oriental malaysians who would go and take a look or look see..look see..without much buying and at what is beeing cheaply offered by the shops just because they saw a few large crowds and vehicles around

I like how you've highlighted something special at the night market rather than a mere generalisation.

Not everyone can avoid a busy weekend. For some, it's the only time they can get away from work. Some even like the hustle and bustle, and with the new road from Gua Musang, expect even more visitors from Terengganu and Kelantan.

Re:My CH Trip on FT day weekend - 2006/06/01 16:49 I really appreciate Michael's sharing because I'm going to stay in the same hotel as he did and going there on coming weekend (Agong's birthday).
Now, I know what to expect about the jam and too bad that I've selected the date and booked the room ....before reading people's (like Michael) comments. Anyway, I would like to know :
1) Is the night market in Brinchang open on Sun night ? (besides Sat night)
2) How far Rosa Passadena to night market by walking ?
Thks.

Just want to check with you on the conditions and facilities of the MNS quarters in CH. Thinking of going there this year. Thanks.
