Well, i dont have recommendation of 5 top eateries. Coz I didnt get to try so many places yet.
But I have a warning for tourist trap. Restoran Cameron Highlands at Brinchang town. Avoid this place at all cost, if not it will cost you a lot. I and my family went up Cameron Highland on a wonderful Friday and expect a good dinner. There wasn't any menu and/or price. There's only a notice saying price is up 20% during the Chinese New Year season. They'll charge you crazy for pathetic food. Fish ball soup which is basically 10 pcs of flour balls goes around RM 18. A dish of very normal vege cost about RM 17. A dish of chicken with a few slices of chicken and which doesnt taste good goes for around RM 28. Everything added in, it cost us RM 170 for 5 person simple dinner which is exorbitantly high even compared to KL standards. This restaurant is definitely a trap for tourist. They like one-time business.
Address: Brinchang town Directions: If you come up from Tanah Rata towards Brinchang town, the restaurant is on the left hand side shop rows. The first restaurant on the left. See picture to see its vicinity restaurant.
At Least Do This: Be careful of others restaurant around that have a same signage design.
Or to be safe, remember to first check whether the restaurants have menu with price listed clearly before deciding to eat there.
Be wary of restaurant where there are people inviting you in.
Alternative: Many other restaurants around Brinchang town. Try to spot the restaurants where the locals eat at.

For me, i quite agreed that highland restaurnt has a very nice hot steamy steamboat. The servings given are very generous. There are really fresh big prawns. heaven when u ate the prawns. so juicy and fresh!
Fishballs are good. The meat is tender and nice. variety of veges given too! they are yellow noodles and bee hoon given.
Unlike other steamboat operators, i noticed the prawns are rather small. Compared to highland restaurant, those prawns given are 2x the size of others restaurant. they are considered very generous!
Nothing beats the charchoal based steamboat. it keeps on boiling!!
price wise per head is RM15.
Location : Quite easy to find this restaurant. it's behind the main road ) if you see you hoo restaurant, just go behind the back lane... it's the same row as public bank !
pls eat during night time. nice when weather is cold. you just love it. for me and my spouse, we just lourve this alot. the soup gets tastier as u put in more ingredients inside.

We went to Hong Kong restaurant in brinchang last week and it was a very bad experience for my family there. They charged RM20 per head for a steamboat and I really can't believe my eyes for the amount of food they served. Even my kids at 6 year old can see that the amount served with that price is so ridiculous!

Is there a Hong Kong Restaurant in Brinchang? I went to a Hong Kong Restaurant in Tanah Rata and found a cockroach leg among my vegetables. No wonder my husband kept shaking his head when I asked if he wanted to order more vegetables. Was puzzled as he is a veg lover. He only told me when we left the restaurant.

Hi Stepehn.. I think RM5 for a pot of tea is reasonable...... maybe you can break down the list, see we can compare the price?.....before we black list the restaurant....I never been there..

But it is a bit costly. A bow of Laksa > RM7.00, if in KL probably exceptable but in CH, it is too high.

I was in Cameron 2 weeks ago to play friendly football match against Bertam MCA at Tanah Rata. Nice weather and you don't really get tired (we are a bunch of veteran footballer average 37 years old).
About the eateries.....if you plan to go in a group and target to have steamboat, my recommendation would be Summer Kaye Garden at Tanah Rata. It was opened a year ago........take the Tanah Rata to Ringlet road, once you reach almost the end of Tanah Rata town, you will see a big HSBC signboard on your left.....go 20 meter further and there is a right turn, turn in and follow the road (small road), around 800meter you will see the SKG signboard on right hand.....turn in.
Their Herbal Porridge Steamboat is good, environment is nice, spacious unlike most crowded steamboat at Tanah Rata. Per head is RM17 (portion of 6 should be enough to feed 8-10 adults depending on your stomach). They also have normal dishes (dai chow) but we didn't have time to try. You can get the contact from their website :www.skg.cameronhighlands.com
We want to take breakfast at Uncle Chow (Tanah Rata) but it was closed.
