visit CM on 9/8/08 without advanced hotel booking, problem? - 2008/07/26 00:23
I am from Spore and thinking of visiting during this coming national day weekend. there will be me and my wife and 5yr and 10mth old boys. Dept from Beach Rd will cost ~S$ 110 return ticket. It seems like there are so many cheap hotels or "town hotel" up the hills especially Brinchang. Is it advisible to just come without any hotel booked and once get of the coach then walk and find the nearest to the station. is the whole place always hard to find hotel rooms and which will you recommend something value for money and not too expensive no * is ok..say +/- rm100, will I expect something decent? thanks

Low price accomodation is one thing, but during the Singapore national day weekend is also considered a super peak weekend for most of the hotels in Cameron Highlands. So you'd better book the hotel earlier or else you might not be able to find a suitable place to spend a night.

Hi Tiong, You must book before you go during weekends esp long week ends or Singapore holidays/School holidays.
Only during non-peak seasons or weekdays you may just go without any booking. By the way the hotel's/room's rates are much higher for holidays eve, holidays and weekends.
The differences between peaks and off-peaks can be double. Frankly, Rm 100 - rooms may be available during off-peak only. Even during off-peaks I pay Rm 227 for a room at Strawberry Park Resort which is considered exclusive.
Most hotel are around 150 to 200 rm this include the Equatorial Hotel. Star Regency is less than 100rm during off-peaks. So for peak you may pay 50-100 % more. Well get a reasonable one between 100 to 200rm for your coming holiday. Your wife and son will enjoy their holidays better. Try staying at Brinchang Point. Most activities are here since you are not driving there. Strawberry farm, Cactus Valley, weekend night market are within walking distance. Have a safe and pleasant trip.

Food wise, Tanah Rata is cheaper, but Brinchang got more variety and even the famous night market is in Brinchang too. Unfortunately, most of the problematic F&B operators are in Brinchang too. Have a nice day in Cameron Highlands!

Hi Tiong, you are going by coach, so Equatorial & Strawberry Park is out of the way and you need transport to move around. We usually stayed at Strawberry Park because my wife love the environment (surrounded by greens).
By the way Brinchang Point is one of the town, the other two popular ones are Tanah Rata and Ringlets. All threes have hotels in the town itself. I strongly recommend that u stay in Brinchang point because your wife and kid will enjoy it and you need not spent on transport.
Because its a weekend that u had chosen, so expect to pay more for rooms. Star Regency, Rosa Passadena, Rainbow hotel, Jasmine hotel & kowloon hotel are ok. Star Regency & Rosa Passadena have more hotel facilities & amenities. Visit the site "www.cameronpremier.com.my" this is the web-site of Rosa Passadena and Rainbow hotel.
There are lots of restaurants in this area. When u are in Brinchang any direction u choose left, right, front or back u can see hotels, restaurants, shops, coffee shops etc. Within 30 mins u walk round the whole Brinchang point.
U wont miss the Star Regency, from star regency u walk down the slope on its left. 100 meters down u will see a row of shop houses. No. 19 is "Oldies & Goodies restaurant" here the noodles, congees roast meats etc are good. Price to me is reasonable yet cheaper than S'pore due to exchange rate.
Directly opposite this restaurant across the road you can see the Cactus Valley and some local product shops. Next to cactus valley is the"Big Red Strawberry Farm" here you can buy strawberry, jams, vegetables etc. Cactus valley must pay for entrance, but the strawberry farm is free admission. The night market is at the side of Star Regency. Ask around the people are quite friendly.
If you want to explore Tanah Rata then u need to take a cab. Ringlets nothing spectacular. From Brinchang pt u can take a taxi to Kea Farm, this is where u can buy local produces "fruits, flowers, veges etc". Must bargain with the vendors some are too much. Browse around before u do your shopping. You need to tell the taxi driver that u want to go to kea farm market.
For dinner try the steam-boat dinner, the better one charge about Rm 18 per adult. There are some that price around Rm25 for two adults. There are fast food outlets also. Food wise no problem at all. Please be assured that u all will enjoy it and I am not surprise you will visit C H again. Try going during off peaks u will enjoy also.

You have to understand that with this super-peak period, there will be alot of visitors, from SG to CH. If you're not familiar with the place, moving around with your two children can be a bit inconvenient, with your children and luggages to handle. It is not advisable if this is your first trip to CH.
I would suggest you take up a tour, from a SG company. They can arrange the hotel and transportation arrangement for you. This is just a suggestion, but the final decision is still yours to make.
If you still want to go on your own, than for information on the type of accomodation. Look at the Accomodation section. There are contact numbers which you can call, directly. Some even have internet booking facilities. But you have to balance both hotel and transportation booking confirmation. When you're there, you will need to re-confirm the pick point and timing for the return bus trip. The waiting period for the bus can be a bit of a frustration. It does test your patience.

Tiong, It will be better for you to book your hotel room first before coming. After the room then book your coach tickets earlier, cos most of the coachers are almost fully booked. If you wanted to stay within the Brinchang Point area, why don't you try the new hotel (Hotel Titiwangsa). Their family rooms are real big and nice, so it's real suitable for your family of 4 and the rate is also reasonable. Happy holiday.

Hello Tiong, Sorry I do not know where is Hotel Titiwangsa. While waiting for the phone number, why not consider these few that I know, they are all in Brinchang and are within walking distance to each other.
Star Regency---------05-4915133 Rosa Passadena-------05-4912288
Smaller hotels Hotel Chua Ghin------05-4911801 Jasmine Hotel--------05-4911588/05-4914688 Kowloon Hotel--------05-4911366 Parkland Hotel-------05-4911299 Hotel Rainbow--------05-4914628
Frankly you don't have much time to pick around. You already confirm your coach tickets, my advise is call them direct and confirm your room. We are serious that its a super peak weekend that you have chosen. Good luck...

Thanks Andrew for your kind assistance. I suppose all the hotels that you mentioned are just within a stone throw from the brinchang town and it is within the shophouses area? I dont mind if the hotel has no star as long as it is clean.I have to compromise this for the convenience of located right in the town. I have not got the tickets yet, perhaps no chance also. I am thinking now that perhaps there is no point for me to travel during this peiod as this is super period for Singapore up in CH. Perhaps a normal weekend will be more enjoyable and I have more time to arrange bearing in mind I have 2 children and we are not driving up. by the way, I also heard that KL/PJ area is stike with serious handfood mouth disease, that' why I hestitate and did not get my ticket yesterday. Perhaps , delay the trip will be rather meaningful I think. Thanks for your willingness to share infor.

Dear Tiong, The phone number for Titiwangsa Hotel is 05-4911808. The hotel rates are some where between RM100.00 (twin room) to RM230.00 (family suite) before promotional discount. That's what I got to know where we were there last week. Bye.

Tiong, you may want to email me, at yongsinchee@gmail.com, with your contact number. I can advise you on some concerns and options, when you are going up CH.
But if you are still planning to go during the SG National Day period, then I may not be able to help you. You may encounter difficulties when it comes to booking of hotels and transportation.
I avoid Super-Peak and Peak periods. The examination period is one of the best time to go.... as long as it doesn't clashes with the Malaysian holidays...
For your consideration.
