Mr. De Souza,

I won't be able to meet you at "Moonlight" towards the end of this year. But I do have four friends who would be able to join for your walk on 28/12/07.

I do hope that all of you would have a nice time.

Best regards.

Re: SOLVED! The Mysterious Disappearance of Jim Thompson, th - 2008/01/01 20:47 Dear John,

Thanks for the posting.

My recent trip to the Highlands was the best so far. While walking down Jalan Kamunting, I came across three developments in the area:

1. The signs outside "Moonlight" have since been done away with. I was told that the cottage is now the property of "a private owner" and the place has been left as it is for quite some time.
2. The gate barrier at the Lutheran Mission bungalow is now no longer there. All that is left is a metal support complete with a hook, lock and chain.
3. A new sign has come up near the Mission home. It reads: "Jilarang Menembak Burung (sic)" Loosely translated, it means, "It's prohibited to shoot the birds".

In all, I spent about five hours at the precinct. While I was there, I took the opportunity to explore a track near the Lutheran abode. Two construction workers who were engaged with the slope work at the "Rumah Istirahat Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Perkerja" were surprised when they saw me heading for the woods at 3pm. When I emerged from the jungle at 5pm, one of them asked me: "Did you see anything?"

All I did was to shake my head.

Happy New Year, John.

Why did you go into the jungle at 3pm?

Best regards.

Thanks for the posting.

I went into the jungle to see if there was a bird sanctuary near the Lutheran Mission bungalow. I came across one but it didn't turn out to be what I had expected it to be.

Regards and best wishes.

Re: SOLVED! The Mysterious Disappearance of Jim Thompson, th - 2008/03/09 16:23 Dear Mr. De Souza,

Is there a room on the second level of "Moonlight" bungalow?

Best regards.

Re: SOLVED! The Mysterious Disappearance of Jim Thompson, th - 2008/03/15 18:06 Dear Gordon Dennis,

There are no rooms on the second level of "Moonlight" bungalow. The upper level is actually an attic which is used for the storing of light materials.

Best regards.

Re: SOLVED! The Mysterious Disappearance of Jim Thompson, th - 2008/03/20 01:57 Dear All,

My name is Poovan and been visiting Cameron Highlands for the past 12 years and I always stay in Twin Pines. My last trip was on monday and I just got back to KL. This was the first time I went alone. In the past me and my friends have experience a lot of strange things, we've been on most of the jungle trail and got lost-save my some rock markings that was never there before, played spirit of the coins and deck cards, trying to communicate with the spirit. I can be a bit skeptical at time.

Monday nite as I was lying alone on bed, the disappearance of Jim Thompson came to my mind. Not directly but a link of a story. Involving me meeting the grandson of the person who knows about what happened to jim thompson.

Throughout my stay I keep seeing advertisement about this around tanah rata.

I am not sure what to conclude all this,

Poovan

Re: SOLVED! The Mysterious Disappearance of Jim Thompson, th - 2008/03/20 20:45 Dear Poovan,

In fact, on the first half year of Jim Thompson's disappearance, many people tried some unorthodox methods to search for him. E.g. seek advice from mediums like bomoh, indian and chinese trance from the temples. They also seek spiritual advice from orang asli shaman. All these attempts also proved futile.

Re: SOLVED! The Mysterious Disappearance of Jim Thompson, th - 2008/03/26 18:05 Dear Gold Poovan Devi,

You're not the only one who has dabbled with "coins and cards" to have a better understanding of Jim's disappearance from the Highlands. I know of many who have done the same thing.

What Caroline Chong brought up is indeed true: When it became obvious that Jim was lost at the retreat "many people tried unorthodox methods (to help them in their) search for him".

This approach, strange as it may seem, has gone on for a long time.

Today marks the 41st anniversary of Jim's eclipse from the hill station. For the lost four decades, the mystery of his departure has not only been a topic which has enjoyed a fair measure of ambiguity; just as interesting, it has also been a subject which many a theorist have found hard to put aside. From the time he went astray, more than a dozen theories have been advanced to best explain his insubstantiality. Of the many who wrote about him, none have come close to solving his abscondence from the retreat. Why is that so? Simple. Firstly, it could be that the writers were not at all aware that Jim actually left the Ling's estate at 1.30pm; or secondly, they chose not to know about it. Of the two, the latter seems to be more the case. As such, his last appearance has not only gone on to be an unsolved mystery; it has also led many to go on a wheel spin.

I have to admit it has not at all been easy dealing with Jim's exit from the resort. The book I wrote took some time to see the light of day. It was not meant to be one with straightforward answers; it was written to jog the mind of the reader. To date, many have been somewhat successful in coming to the right conclusion. One of them is a contributor to this forum. He didn't have to turn to "coins and cards" for the right answer; he simply took note of what I had to put across.

Re: SOLVED! The Mysterious Disappearance of Jim Thompson, th - 2008/04/07 00:13 Dear A N Allarey,

Thanks for the posting.

I presume "Thompson" must be fine.

The last time I saw him was on Thursday, 27 December 2007. We spoke for about 25 minutes. During our conversation, a few subjects were raised: some personal, some in a way connected to Jim's disappearance from the resort.

I have to admit, I was indeed pleased with my meeting up with him. Till today, it still puzzles me as to why he was not at all interviewed when it became obvious that Jim was lost at the retreat. Could it be that the authors were biased? Or could it be they had problems communicating with him? Whatever it is, the opportunity was there. Sad to say, it was not exploited to the fullest.

Best regards.
