My family is consiering a trip to CH next month. It will be the 1st trip for us to CH.
Going there by coach
Could anyone advise on the following:
1) IS Strawberry Park very isolated as Sulphur mentioned? Good for children?
2) We do not drive, so by staying at Strawberry Park, is it very inconvenient?
3) Which strawberry Farm is choose cos there are so many farms?

Re:Cameron 20 - 23 March - 2008/04/02 21:10 Hi B2t, I am andrew also from Singapore. Glad to here that you are going to Cameron Highland. Both trips this year, I stayed at Strawberry Park.

It is rather isolated, esp without your own transport. Though the environment is very exclusive, nice and quiet. Children may not like it. And there is a strawberry farm in the resort.

If you have not book your rooms, you can consider "Rosa Passadena Hotel" they have rooms for 3 to 4 people. Rates is lower than Strawberry Park. I am planning to stay there on my next visit.

Very convenient for those without transport. Evening you can stroll around Brinchang point. The nearest Strawberry Farm is 10 mins walk. This is known as "Big Red strawberry Farm" Free entrance and they also grow vegetables, cactuses and flowers. Open daily at around 8.30am to 5.30pm. Fully covered that means rain or shine you can visit.

They have a gift shop and a cafeteria. They sell strawberry, veges etc. Children will enjoy having strawberry ice cream or drinks there. Clean and cool environment with toilets facilities. No limit of time spend there. Most people out of courtesy will buy something at the shop or have a drink though not compulsory. Just in front of this farm is the cactus valley, here they charge an entrance fee. From the main entrance of Rosa Passadena Hotel walk down the slope. You will see a row of shop houses. Go to the other side, cross the road and you can see the Cactus valley. From here to the farm and cactus valley is only 150m. Before you cross the road look out for a restaurant "Oldies and Goodies" Good food and reasonable price. Noodles are about 5-6 Rm. per plate. Rice, porridges etc all reasonable price. Quality like crystal Jade standard. Most important is clean and hygienic. To go to kea farm or Tanah Rata you can get a cab. The hotel organise local tour and they may have shuttle service.

Best I can do at the moment. Good luck and have a pleasant trip. Will look forward to your comments after your trip.

Re:Cameron 20 - 23 March - 2008/04/02 21:13 I'll try my best to answer those questions

1. Strawberry park IS very isolated, you'd have to take a windy road all the way up to the hotel.

2.It can be quite inconvenient if you're not driving as i said in my first statement, you have to take a long, windy road up to the hotel. Therefore, it's pretty much impossible for you to walk your way down.

3. I always go to the one beside Equatorial Hotel as it's the nearest to the place i stay(which is, EQ hotel, Ha!).However, i would recommend you kasimanis Strawberry farm as a head start as it has quite a good reputation on this forum.I personally didn't get the chance to try it though.

Re:Cameron 20 - 23 March - 2008/04/03 00:46 depends on how u look at it.... you wan a hotel which is nice, beautiful and serene... take strawberry resort. U have 2 take a 10min drive from bringchang to strawberry. I don think its feasible to walk from the resort.
Even if u stay in equatorial hotel, you would also need to take a cab to brinchang....

Re:Cameron 20 - 23 March - 2008/04/03 11:55 Kong, during my last visit in mid-march, I did go to kasimanis strawberry farm. We could only enter the area near the small gift shop. Most of the are were cordon off. We try to walk in further to see if there is anything to see. What we saw was a sign "Beware of dogs". So we stop and walk back to our car and we heard another group of visitors grumbling, "How can they recommend this place online" I think its under renovation or maintenance.

Do not recommend 1st time visitor to places that u have not been.

Hi YL, No not advisable to walk from Rosa passadena hotel to Hotel Equatorial. They dont have pedestrian walkway. My estimate is about 3km. Hotel Rosa Passadena is at Brinchang point the main town and Hotel Equatorial is near Kea Farm. It took me about 10 mins by car.

Taxi won't cost very much but you better ask before boarding. Both hotels may have shuttle services for a fee. Have a nice trip.

Re:Cameron 20 - 23 March - 2008/04/09 09:02 Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the reply.
I have already checked with Hotel Rosa. They do not have free shuttle service. They also suggest taking a cab.

Re:Cameron 20 - 23 March - 2008/04/10 13:46 Hi Andrew/Kong/Sluphur,

Thanks for your tips.

I am able to get a cheap rate to stay @ Strawberry Park, so will be putting up at the resort.

Just to check with you guys, Strawberry Part resort seems to organise tours. One of them is the Countryside Tour (to Boh Tea plantation, cactus farm, strawberry farm), it is a half day tour. Have anyone tried this tour? Or you guys venture on ur own?

Also, the road up the hills to CH, is it steep? I am wondering if my kids can take it? And if i should feed them with motion sickness medication?

Appreciate your advice!

Cheers!
b2t

Re:Cameron 20 - 23 March - 2008/04/10 17:23 Hi b2t, glad to hear that you have decided to stay at Strawberry Park. My advise is exit at Simpang Pulai. Immediately after the toll turn right and keep to your right because you need to turn right again at the next traffic junction which is about 200 to 300 meters from the toll. There s a road-sign that shows Cameron highlands. This road is safe, wide and the bends are generally ok. There are a few sharper bends but as long as you go slow its should be alright for your kids. Normally motion sickness is due to heavy braking suddenly.

Regarding the tour its best you venture on your own. Only the sungei palas centre i give it a miss because some say we need a 4wheel drive. There is another tea centre along the road to Ringlet. On your way up by Simpang Pulai you will pass one also. Most places of interest will have sign boards along the road.

When you are going into the strawberry park road, go slow because there are two sharp turn, its more like a U-turn. So do the same when u are going out from Strawberry Park resort. I stay there twice, Jan '08 and March 'o8. My car is a Toyota Wish 1.8. What we did was drive up and down most of the time (Kea Farm-Brinchang-Tanah Rata-Ringlets and stop where we feel like stopping. Better foods are at Brinchang and Tanah Rata but do drive down to Ringlets. Rest assured you will enjoy, Take Care !

Re:Cameron 20 - 23 March - 2008/04/10 17:48 Hi b2t, Andrew again, the road I propose is not steep at all. Well like the way we go up to Singapore Mt Faber. The reason i don't like the old road by Tapah is steeper, narrower and some parts of the road is besides cliff and it has more bends. I am 56 and I dont like "Daytona Drive". My car was on auto gear all the way from simpang pulai. Simpang Pulai way has nice views are its clear all the way no blind corners. 100 percent safe. Some parts even have double lanes for you to overtake in case there is a slow moving or heavy vehicle. They will keep left for u to overtake. It took me about the same time by both ways to Strawberry Park though the distance by Simpang is about 50 km more.
