Re: SOLVED! The Mysterious Disappearance of Jim Thompson, th - 2008/07/21 17:47 Dear Roy,

I really enjoyed reading your book! nevertheless, i wish to ask :-

1) Do you think Dr. Ling was aware that Jim left the villa at 1.30pm?

2) If so, why did he say that he remembered their returning to the cottage at about 2.30pm?

3) Further, why did he mentioned that he "heard footsteps pass by my bedroom door (at) about 3.30pm and (I) presumed it was Mr. Thompson taking a stroll"?

Best regards,

Re: SOLVED! The Mysterious Disappearance of Jim Thompson, th - 2008/07/26 18:05 Dear Mr. Clement Ng,

I suppose Dr. Ling was aware that Jim left the villa at 1.30pm. Why he chose to say things differently is anyone's guess.

Best regards.

Re: SOLVED! The Mysterious Disappearance of Jim Thompson, th - 2008/10/05 20:48 Dear Mr. De Souza,

There has been this talk that Jim spent about 10 minutes at the Lutheran Mission bungalow taking photographs of the place just before he disappeared from the Cameron Highlands.

Could this event be taken as correct?

Re: SOLVED! The Mysterious Disappearance of Jim Thompson, th - 2008/10/11 19:20 Dear Chandra3,

Thanks for the posting.

It has been more than four decades since Jim disappeared from the Cameron Highlands. To date, a lot of things have been said about him -- some true; some false. A fine example is what you brought up concerning his photo taking session at the Lutheran Mission bungalow.

Of late, there has been this talk that he was seen by a gardener when he came by to the mission home. It is said that both of them exchanged "hellos". The teenager, who was in the midst of weeding a flower bed, remembered seeing him with a camera around his neck. While he was in the compound, he spent about 10 minutes taking photographs of the place. After he had done so, he waved to the youngster and said "bye, see you".

This account, sad to say, is not true. What actually happened is this: When he trespassed into the chalet, he was seen by a cook named Che Fatimah binte Mohamed Yeh. She told the police she saw him at 4pm.

"I was in the kitchen," she told Superintendent A.S. Nathan, "when I saw him come up the road. He had on a white shirt and a pair of gray slacks. He stopped for a while to take a look at the garden. While looking at the plants, he did not speak to anyone. A short while later, he left the premises and headed the same way from where he came."

The testimony of Che Fatimah was brought to light three days after Jim was reported as lost. As for the gardener, his revelations were made known 40 years later.

Of the two, it is obvious the gardener was not telling the truth. To begin with, Jim did not have a camera when he came over to the retreat. The same could also be said of the Lings. The only one who had a camera was Constance Mangskau. She brought it along with her when she joined Jim and the Lings for a picnic at Gunong Brinchang. While they were at the picnic, a few shots were taken. When she got back to Bangkok, she saw to it that the photographs were developed.

Re: SOLVED! The Mysterious Disappearance of Jim Thompson, th - 2008/10/19 20:06 Dear Mr Felix Kara,

Thanks for the posting.

To date, there's been no evidence that Jim headed for China after he disappeared from the Cameron Highlands.

This talk of his residing in China will go on for a long time to come.

It is best that this rumour be left to die off on its own.

Best regards.

Thanks for the posting.

It's hard to tell if Jim was involved with the trafficking of drugs.

Whatever was brought up about his past is clearly spelt out in my book. If you have the time, please refer to pages 48 and 49 for the details.

Best regards.

Re: SOLVED! The Mysterious Disappearance of Jim Thompson, th - 2008/12/29 21:50 Dear Mr. De Souza,

Let me start off by congratulating you for being the first person to chalk 100,000 hits on this website.

There's something that has always been on my mind. I believe you are the only one who has the answer to this question: While they were on their way to "Moonlight" villa, what topics were raised by Jim and Constance while they were in "Thompson's" taxi?

Best regards & A Happy New Year to you.

Re: SOLVED! The Mysterious Disappearance of Jim Thompson, th - 2009/01/02 19:10 Dear Mr. Lawrence Lee,

You brought up a good point...

Like it or not, there are some things that cannot be discussed in the open. A fine example is the question you raised. You're not the first person to mention about it; there are many others who have also done so in the past.

The conversation which Jim and Constance had will be a source of interest for a long time to come. All I can say is this: of the two, Constance had a lot more to say when compared to Jim.

Happy New Year to you.

Re: SOLVED! The Mysterious Disappearance of Jim Thompson, th - 2009/01/03 03:31 Has anyone visited the Moonlight Bungalow or anyone have the direction ?

I tried going there after my visit to Strawberry Resort on 29 Dec but only saw the Lutheran Mission sign. There was actually another route leading further, but I decide to turn back as it is very deserted.

Re: SOLVED! The Mysterious Disappearance of Jim Thompson, th - 2009/01/03 18:04 Dear Enjoylife77,

Thanks for making an attempt to visit "Moonlight" villa.

There are a number of ways of getting to the holiday home. If you are not sure as to how to get there, the best way is by taxi.

Correct me if I'm wrong: After you left the Strawberry Park Resort, you found yourself at the T-junction of Jalan Kamunting. While you were there, you came across three prominent signs viz., "RUMAH ISTIREHAT KWSP CAMERON HIGHLANDS", "LUTHERAN MISSION BUNGALOW" and "SUNLIGHT".

If you had taken the "route leading further", that is, the "deserted" path with the "SUNLIGHT" indicator, you would have reached the cottage within 15 minutes.

I can understand why you decided "to turn back": for a while it must have dawned on you the path you were on was not the route to "Moonlight". Surprising as it may seem, you were on the right track. In the past, there was a "MOONLIGHT" sign next to the "SUNLIGHT" indicator. The former has since been done away with. All that is left now is its supporting frame. If the sign had not been removed, you would have gone on with your walk without any doubts whatsoever.
