 Phony & Artificially Coloured Guava-Apple Hybrid Fruit - 2007/05/24 15:41 Recently, it came out in the local newspaper that somebody wet to Cameron Highlands and managed to buy some guava-apple hybrid fruit.

Eventually it turned out to be just some common Thai-like guavas and it was not even a hybrid between apple and guava. To make thing worse, the unscrupulous con men or culprits coloured the exterior of the phony fruit with pinkish green or red in order to make the fruit look attractive to buyers.

But all the farmers and businessmen in Cameron Highlands denied this allegation. The farmers in CH claimed non of them plant this kind of hybrid fruit in Cameron Highlands. But somebody in Cameron Highlands must had done something to set up this scam?? The phony fruits will not just appeared and sold in Cameron Highlands out of middle of nowhere??

Can somebody enlightened me on this issue?? Is there anyone out there can provide some clues to this incident?? So anyone who is going to visit Cameron Highlands soon. Please be careful and watch out for this scam.

Boy I am terribly wrong about this fact. My gullible and simple mind just don't work in this reality world anymore. I've go to be more careful upon my vegetable or fruit shopping spree in Cameron Highlands. Especially dealing with new agriculture products.

 Re:Phony & Artificially Coloured Guava-Apple Hybrid Fruit - 2007/08/15 16:54 I just bought these guava fruits - they cut off the skin and the colour inside looks very artificial -bright light green. This green opaque layer, 3/4 cm thick, surrounds the white core inside - but the normal guava is all white after it's skinned, the layer and the core, not like this one. Can anyone comment whether it's safe to eat? Is it chemically treated? A bit too late to ask, anyway - I started to eat last night!

This "blackhearted" phony product is making a come back again in Cameron Highlands AGAIN! Especially at its Brinchang night market. So watch out! Please don't get cheated! Because such product is bad for your health too! For the sake of your beloved family members or spouses and their health, please do not buy and eat this product! Don't fall into their trap! Thank you!

Regret that I visit this forum too late, and only after I saw the similar news in SinChew Daily. It's not just about cheating money but health is more of a concern, with the quick money no wonder fruit seller lady now wear a Rolex. This 'fruit' was sold at RM5 per bag. The lady still can cook up story saying that one plant can bear 2 fruits only and each time took 9 months to harvest .. ..
