My 2006 Ch trip - 2006/06/15 18:54 This year it is a very boring story, not as adventurous as the last one. NO wonder, I only had one long weekend with 2 nights stay at Cameronian.
It was my first trip to Ch by car but it was not as scary as I thought before. Arrived in the afternoon at Cameronian, checked in into a nice room for RM 45. It is a really great place with great staff but they don't take any bookings and one needs to be very brave esp. on the weekend.

I planned no walking and didn't even know whether the rafflesia was blooming. My feet and muscles were still sore from Sabah and Sarawak. I climbed G.Bako with shoes with a too large size but the next day I bought another pair which fitted quite well and reasonably priced too.

The culinary indulgements up there were certainly nothing I would like to give a pass. Zainab Sam, T-Cafe for the tea and scones, missed the apple pie, Brinchang steam boat and a few satays from Brinchang night market. At first I was slightly confused with new new venue but it was OK.

Driving up the winding road to Sungei Palas Tea estate truly gave me the worst adrenalin shocks, heart rate++++++during the whole way up, shivering legs as I arrived the top. It was a hectic day but I was simply too stressed to be able to judge how friendly or unfriendly the staff really was.

Now back in KL, waiting for my plane to Frankfurt.

Re:My 2006 Ch trip - 2006/06/17 02:52 HI Julia,

it was the Cameronian Inn, a youth hostel. I stayed in a private room, nice and clean but basic. Sorry I made a mistake because I took the next price class for RM 60.

Camerion Inn, Jl. Mantigi has dorms for RM 8 which may not be what you would like to stay at. Please view the accommodation section of this website

My room was a family room with long bath, but you can save a lot of money in a double room with toilet/shower for RM 44. They have a dog which I already met last year, a very social pet who is great with children and adults alike.

They have a nice Indonesian lady who very often works at the reception and is also the cook. Her fried rice is delicious and the serve is so huge that 2 people can eat. Their tea and scones can compete with those from T Cafe and Bala's Chalet. You may want to try the simple cooked Western breakast which when I'm not mistaken costs RM, chillie fried rice also RM 4.

Just one disadvange, their policy is walk-in guests who may end up staying longer than planned. You need to be brave to just come without booking. It is about 5 min at the most for a very slow walker with blisters all over the feet like myself. MOst likely it is 2 min from the bus terminal at the main road(jl. Besar).

What I think need to be given special kudos is their attitude towards guests who would like to venture out on their own to explore the woods(not a rain forest with rough spots compared to Mt. Mulu or Kinibalu). The treks in Ch, however, are not as well sign-posted as Sarawak, where it is nearly impossible to get lost. Cameronian staff are extremely helpful to assist you and provide a knowledgable guide if you wish. Yes, the owners are Indian and there are a few Indonesian girls working there.

Oh....and by the way, I noticed more construction than last year, did I just imagine or is it true?

Re:My 2006 Ch trip - 2006/06/17 23:19 It is 2 min or at best 5 min for very slow walking. In fact it is still in the centre of the town, a bit hidden behind buildings.
