Cameron Highlands- Genting Highlands Road - 2004/11/21 21:21 The wind up here is swelling with rumours that there is a road already being build between Bertam Valley, Cameron Highlands to Genting Highlands. Nice...really nice, hope they (the contractors) will do a real shitty job as well like the one to simpang pulai and to Gua Musang. Tax payers money well used.

Re:Cameron Highlands- Genting Highlands Road - 2004/11/23 18:50 For your information the road being built is fron Bertam Valley ,Cameron Highlands to Kuala Medang ,Lipis and not to Genting Highlands. Package 1 from Kuala Medang to Pos Betau is already complete, Package 2 from Pos Betau to Penampang is under construction and Package 3 from Penampang to Kg.Susu is also under construction. Package 4 Kg Susu to Bertam Valley, work has not started yet .

Worse, the first casino will open in CH. This would be followed up banks, entertainment centres, cinemas, mega malls. All the peace and tranquility will be gone!

Dear friends,

I am troubled to see more roads leading up to the highlands. In my humble opinion, roads are both a blessing and a curse

As much as roads are necessary for better access, economic boost, etc., roads must be planned, built and maintained in a sustainable manner, particularly in the highlands.

As can be seen during the construction of the newly opened Spg Pulai - Kpg Raja road leading up to Cameron Highlands, the devastation to the environment is fathomless. Now, we have a wide road, with vast forest clearing, steep roadcuts/slopes on both sides and it is almost a highway, leading up to the highlands, having a nagging problem of rock falls, landslides, etc etc.

The idea of connecting the 3 hill stations (Genting Highlands, Fraser's Hill and Cameron Highlands) with a "Highland Highway (Skyway)" was proposed almost a decade ago, but was shelved due to various reasons, economic feasibility being one. We should keep a look out for any such "unsustainable" ideas/plans being proposed and take a proactive role in ensuring our highlands are kept alive and not massacred
