Visiting during chinese new year - 2007/11/22 23:28 Was thinking of visiting Cameron Highlands during Chinese New Year. However, not sure if it is a good time to go. Will the attraction places be closed during Chinese New Year?

Re:Visiting during chinese new year - 2007/11/23 08:02 Far from being closed, the shops will be packed and overflowing with visitors all hungry and waiting to eat or shop. Sometimes it can get ugly. Personally the best time to visit is off peak ie. weekdays and non-holidays.

Re:Visiting during chinese new year - 2007/11/23 10:36 Yup...I second that. CNY is definiely a no go situation due to the crowd and you may find some shops charging extra due to the overwhelming demand. Traffic will be horrendous. Moreover you have additional outstation CH folks who "balik kampung" to CH. Non peak time is the best.

Re:Visiting during chinese new year - 2007/11/23 17:53 Believe me, visiting Cameron Highlands during Chinese New Year is a sure mission of suicide. Horrendous line up of traffic jam, line up at all the F&B outlet for one hour or so, pay ridiculuos high price for accomodation, food and sometimes even attractions, not all Chinese F&B outlets are opened due to CNY. My GOD, you are inviting yourself to pure hell on earth if you visit Cameron Highlands during CNY.

Re:Visiting during chinese new year - 2008/02/02 11:59 Dear Vick,

Usually taxi from Kampar will not render its service to Cameron Highlands. You have to take a long journey bus to Tapah, Perak and you transit a local bus or taxi from Tapah to Cameron Highlands. Have a nice trip to Cameron Highlands!

Re:Visiting during chinese new year - 2008/02/02 12:45 Dear Vick,
Why don't you get down at Tapah Railway station instead of Kampar. It's easier to get a taxi from Tapah Road to Cameron or the local bus to Cameron.
The cost will be RM80.00 per taxi but you need to pay abit more during the peak period.Have a happy & enjoyable holiday in Cameron Highlands.

Re:Visiting during chinese new year - 2008/11/18 12:41 hi terrano, is it really that crowded during CNY? I heard from the travel agent and the hotel that the farms and plantations will be closed, and if i'm there, i wont be able to visit them.

can anyone confirm this?

Re:Visiting during chinese new year - 2008/11/25 00:16 Given that we're going to be in the country from Jan 20 to 30, would it be better (in terms of crowds) to visit Cameron Highlands before the New Years weekend (20th to 23rd) or after Chinese New Years (27th to 30th)? Do people take an extended weekend or anything like that?

Thanks
Mike Wold

Re:Visiting during chinese new year - 2008/11/25 21:25 Hi Mike, its a wise decision. It wont be that crowded and also less houseflies. Getting a room is also much easier and cheaper. This period is off-peak but you can still see visitors. No traffic-jams and services at restaurants are also better. You will love it and enjoy your holidays.
