Mozzies - 2002/04/13 07:10 Hi,

Are the little suckers a problem in the highlands? Will we need a repellent on the trails? Sorry if it's a silly question but some of us attract mozzies more than the next and would like to know if we should be prepared. Thanks in advance.

Re: Mozzies - 2002/04/17 02:07 No Simone, it is not a silly question! I would ask the same thing if I were going jungle trekking.

Firstly, there are mosquitoes in Cameron Highlands but they tend to be dormant at night and when it is cold, the reason being that all cold blooded animals depend warmth from the environment to become active. Similarly, the number of mosquitoes in Cameron Highlands is much less than you would expect, especially coming from a hot, humid place like Kuala Lumpur.

However, if you were to stay in the towns there will be nuisance mosquites from the drains and construction sites disturbing you at night because it is much warmer in the house than outside.

In short, dont worry about moquitoes when jungle trekking.

Re: Mozzies - 2002/04/18 09:21 I've had no experience with mozzies in the 5 hikes up. Just fun.
