hmm realy wanna visit cameron highlands - 2008/06/21 12:24
 me and my friends planing for a holiday trip
the sad thing is none of us drive and we travel by bus
all of us are so interested to come to cameron highland..........mainly all of us want to escape the life from KHELL.........and the worst thing we are group of friends of 5 where 3 of us never been there and the other 2 went 2 cameroon when they are kids
personely for me i always wanted to come down to cameroon higlands.........and i will be nice if i can get tips on how to travel around there.......and can we just come down by bus and travel there conviently?what is the nearest hotel to the bus station?we are a bit affraid to travel there since we don't realy know what is up there
i been browsing the net for past few weeks just could not get any idea......so tat's y i do share my thoughts in this forum.......i will be glad if there is anyone can share about what the cheapest hotel there and how to travel around
we gals just want a sweet,memorable and exiciting travel experience........and lastly to escape from this busy kayhell........!

hai sharmila,in cameron highlands u can find a lot of budget hotel from rm55-rm135....camerob town is so small but interesting,u can get a lot of hotel nearest bu station dont worry about that...u just can walk around cameron,or u can take a travel guide with u..call cs trave,i think whole day trip is about rm 30 per person...they will bring u whole cameron include tea factory butterfly garden and many more...(CALL

The bus station is situated at Tanah Rata town, which hosts quite a few hotels but none is considered posh/luxury. Most of them are for budget travelers and it could suit you if you're one.
If you aren't going to travel by car, i'm afraid it can be quite troublesome at times, especially to get to the towns such as Brinchang(which is an amazing town)from Tanah Rata(in my opinion, it's kind of packed with people, especially foreigners). There seemed to be quite a few cabs running in CH too..but i can't help you on the fares..i never sit in one before.
A tour guide will come in handy since you don't have a car with you to drive around. This is all i got to say. Have a memorable stay in CH. I'll be going there on Monday too!(and i get so excited whenever i think of it..lol, after all i'll be going with my sweetest hubby..eek, goosebumps huh?)

i'm planning to CH too and i probably go there by myself. i would like to visit the Strawberry Farm and Tea farm. Nice walk and enjoy the greens mmm...
Where and how long are you going to stay? please share what you hv done there afterwards.

I just returned fr CH. For 5 pax, you may consider Equatorial Hotel 2-bedroom apt. It's huge, like the size of a 3-room HDB flat and v clean with a living room and a sofa bed. I booked thru 5-star tour agency in Sin with coach transfers so i am unable to advice room rate. You may want to check on-line. EQ's location, you may have read in the forum, is within walking distance of Kea farm (where there are little shops selling souvenirs n fruits n vege) and 2 chinese restaurants selling nice affordable food as an alternative to eating in the hotel. As i didn't have transport, i booked an Agro (on day of arrival) and Nature tour (next day tour) with Titiwangsa Tours & Travel Sdn. Bhd. I paid RM$125 with 1 lunch and 1 dinner. The tours were very good and informative for those first timers who aren't familiar with CH. Titwangsa provides transfer fr EQ to Brinchang and vice-versa at RM$3 per way per pax. Last pick up from brinchang, if i don't remember wrongly is at 9.30pm. Don't take the lesiure tour, its cheap but not worth cos it is very brief and you have to pay your own entrance fees to the places they bring you. Fortunately my Leisure tour is complimentary from the tour package i paid for. Hope this little info helps.

To sky: I'm absolutely aware of how lucky i am, and by the way, i'm one day nearer to THE journey!(just to make you even more jealous  )
Actually, i've been spending quite some time lounging and posting on this forum so it shouldn't be too hard for you to find my posts(and advices to the other forum users)if a little search is done. I'll be staying for about 4 nights and i picked the weekdays as to avoid the weekend crowds.(and since i'll be entirely free for one whole month..)
I love the greens too..but never really bother to walk in the forest..i had a bad experience during one of the camp-trips that my school organised..i ended up having ten fat blood-sucking leeches on my leg..LOL(oops,i'm derailing)
Some of the cottage-styled hotels seem really beautiful to me but from what i've gathered on this site, the owners and staffs appear to be quite pretentious. An English high-tea at such places would be excellent but i think those things aren't meant for a poor guy like me. T.T
There are quite a few strawberry farms in CH,about a dozen(to exaggerate).Will you be driving up to CH yourself? A car will be of great convenience as the towns are a mission away from each other if you were to walk.

Guys! Just came back from my trip, spent four days there and it was just as memorable as any of my previous trips. Awesome!
There's nothing much that i'd like to post though..most things stayed the same but there's one thing that really stunned me to bits--The emergence of a Starbucks outlet in Tanah Rata. Yes, i was really stunned, horrified and my mind went blank when i saw that. Imagine THAT[i]. If i'm not mistaken, that shop lot previously housed the Mayflower restaurant, which serves very good steamboat meals. Anyway..some of you might think i was overreacting but i seriously didn't expect a Starbucks outlet to turn out at such a place. My hubby was delighted to see it(he loves coffee and those stuff)but i was least appreciative of its presence. I think Cameron Highlands needs more authentic stalls and Starbucks should be the last(or ever be thought of)option.
Generally speaking, my stay was still as pleasant as ever. I chose the right time of the year for this trip, there were very few tourists in sight and i just LOVED that feeling.

I've been to CH many times, without a car. And I don't find it a problem moving around. Just prepare to walk a bit. But I will only go there during the off-peak season.
I tend to stay in Tanah Rata (TR) for the following reasons:-
1. Hotels here is cheaper than Brinchang and it is easily available, especialy if it is during the off-peak season.
2. The bus terminal is located in TR(local and interstate). So it is very convienent to check the bus timing, availability and booking.
3. Moving around CH, using the local bus service is also convenient. The timing of the bus departure is pretty accurate. Just tell the conductor where you wanted to go, they will tell you the fare to pay. And if you don't know where the tourist spot is or when to alight, just ask the conductor to keep a lookout for you. They are a helpful lot. Your problem will be the return trip... ask the locals, they can advise you what to do.
4. MARDI is nearby TR. I like that place.
5. Food is cheaper in TR than Brinchang.
6. I like the big field. Every evening there is always some activities going on (mainly football). Good place to be, if you got nothing to do.
7. You have to walk a distance, if you wanted to visit the Boh tea plantation in SP. You can opt for Bharat, which is before TR town. But for me, I prefer to walk. You get to see more stuff but only if you are not in a rush. For my next trip, I would like to walk up G. Brinchang in the early morning.

Big deal! This is what supposed to happen to a tourism area. Now Starbucks, maybe next time got Coffee Bean, McDonald's Pizza Hut, Wendy's or even Carls Junior?! Who knows?! Well, this is a good sign for tourism area like Cameron Highlands, at least it means the place is thriving, unlike Fraser's Hill, 10,000 years never changed. Well, anyway, have a nice trip in Cameron Highlands!
