1st Time to CH. Need more details on Hotels - 2008/11/03 09:40

Hi. I have been reading & researching a lot of comments/feedbacks on CH forum. Thanks for the input from all past visitors.

I am planning to stay 4 nites in CH. It's my 1st time there & I am totally clueless of the locations of hotels + food + attractions.

I am going with a 51 years old lady, which means walking long distance (15-20 mins slow paced) To/Fro Makan area from the hotel might be a challenge on daily basis.

1) Seems to me Brinchang is a better town to stay
due to more makan places + attractions?

2) I want to stay in convenient location, yet
still want to have the peace + quietness +
mountainous view of CH. Any recommendations?

3) Is it advisable to stay 2 nites in town
centre (Rosa Passedena, Ranbow, Titiwangsa)
then another 2 nites in Hotel Equatorial?

4) Travel Dates 16-20 Nov 08. Budget is around
RM200 Nett/Room/Nite.

Appreciate very much any kind of advice given as I have not booked anything

Re:1st Time to CH. Need more details on Hotels - 2008/11/04 15:28 Hello Violetta, from your message I suppose you are not driving there.

It will be better if you stay at Rainbow or Rosa Passadena but of course you cannot expect the type of views you want.

Equatorial hotel is nice but you need taxi to move around or go down town. Irrespective of where you stay, to go to kea farm market, one of the attraction either you drive or you need taxi. Rosa and Rainbow are in Brinchang town and within walking distance to food outlets. The cactus valley and the Big Red Strawberry Farm is in brinchang town also. It took me 10-15 mins walk from Rosa Passadena hotel. But the way up is slightly slopy to some. By the way I m in my mid 50s. Also not with very strong leg.

It is best to book before going there, I think the school holidays starting soon. Why don't you browse into www.cameronpremierhotels.com.my this is the web-site for Rainbow and Rosa Passadena hotel. they are under the same management.
Hope the information is helpful to you. Have a nice & cool holiday.

Thanks Andrew for your timely advice. Guess either I have to give up on the nice views or the cheap makan places then?

So u stayed in Rosa.P recently? Is the hotel/room decent enough? I juz check their website. Cost RM280/Room/Nite for Superior Room! Thot u r an ardent fan of Strawberry.P?

Did u manage to see the location/condition of Titiwangsa Hotel?

How's the weather like in CH? I have delayed my trip to 16-19 Nov.

Re:1st Time to CH. Need more details on Hotels - 2008/11/05 06:39 Hi there Maya!

I'm not entirely sure but I'd just like to share my 2 pence. I've been to Colmar Tropicale quite a few times(though that was before I found out how amazing CH was). When you said you wouldn't be driving did that include your husband as well? I would strongly suggest get a car, hire it, borrow it from your friend or whichever way you prefer. Food items at Colmar Tropicale are extremely expensive and it wouldn't be wise of you to pump in your money for those food, you can get quality food from the local restaurants at the Bukit Tinggi Town, which is just about half an hour's drive from Colmar Tropicale, you've got to get down from the hill I'm afraid but considering the huge difference in price(as in food), it's definitely worth the drive!(not to mention the huge variety available in the town)

I don't think I'd be able to shed any light on your main question, you'll have to get on to the North-South highway, which you will be using in order to get to Bukit Tinggi, but I seriously have no idea whether you can get a coach from Colmar Tropicale to CH, I don't think I've seen any bus stations in Bukit Tinggi throughout my stay last time. You should probably ring them up and see!

Sorry if this post comes totally useless to you.

Re:1st Time to CH. Need more details on Hotels - 2008/11/05 13:24 Hi Violetta, I always stay at Strawberry Park Resort because I drove to CH from Singapore, it takes me about 8 to 9 hours. This year alone we went twice, so you can imagine how much we love CH.

I have been to Rosa Passadena it looks good but I still prefer Strawberry Park. As for the rate why don't you call direct. It should be less than Strawberry Park.

Singapore School holidays start on 15th Nov so the rate you got may be for peak seasons. I always go during off peak and I pay about Rm 227 for a double superior room. And we get Rm 70 rebate per day for F & B. We prefer to eat in town so we use our rebate at their SPA. My wife enjoys their massage.

Another hotel you may want to consider is Century Pines Hotel. This is located at Tanah Rata and is about 10 to 15 mins slow walk to food outlets. Brinchang has more to offer. Remember to avoid the "Silver Star Restaurant at Brinchang" well know for dishonest practices.

Re:1st Time to CH. Need more details on Hotels - 2008/11/05 21:25 if you are not using the hotel facility, you can look for option to stay in some holidays apartment.. both brinchang and tanah rata has plenty of choice of it...
last time, i choose to stay at one of the apartment in tanah rata and it's quick nice and walking distance to makan places.... btw, i found out that the food price in tanah rata is much more cheaper than brinchang.. brinchang restaurants are really throat-cutting...
go for google search "cameron highlands apartment", you will find plenty of options..
