Re:equatorial hotel or Century Pines? - 2008/06/23 18:55 Equatorial Hotel is a full fledge resort and it even comes with a mildly heated swimming pool. But Equatorial Hotel is a bit far from all the attractions and even eating is a bit of a hassle too because most of the F&B choices are located at Brinchang and Tanah Rata unless you won't mind to spend a bit of fortune on your food because hotel food usually is a bit costly than outside food especially when Equatorial Hotel claim itself to be a 5-star hotel. Besides, there are more choices in the towns, even the pasar malam food is located at Brinchang town too which is a bit more nearer to Equatorial Hotel compare with Tanah Rata town.

Century Pines Resort is much nearer to the town area and it is not far from some attractions e.g. Mardi Agriculture Park, the famous Tama Sedia Strawberry Farm etc. It is located in Tanah Rata town and the design of the hotel and rooms make it feels like a boutique hotel more than a conventional resort/hotel. But of course this hotel is not so big like Equatorial Hotel and it doesn't provide apartment unit like Equatorial Hotel too.

So it is up to your choice whether you like to stay in Equatorial Hotel or Century Pines Resort.

Pricing wise, both hotels share similar price range. Have a nice trip in Cameron Highlands! Bienvenue!

Re:equatorial hotel or Century Pines? - 2008/06/23 19:00 Caroline you are correct. Equatorial Hotel is located in Kea Farm area, the nearest attraction is the farm market located beside the hotel. Besides that, most of the attractions in Cameron Highlands are not so near to Equatorial Hotel. Century Pines Resort is located right in the middle of Tanah Rata town and it is even walking distance to some attractions like the Mardi Agriculture Park! So have a nice stay in CH and I hope you will like it!

Re:equatorial hotel or Century Pines? - 2008/06/27 21:35 Well written comment, caroline.

I'd just like to add a few more points on EQ's behalf. One's stay at EQ comes with Food and Beverages rebate vouchers, which can be used for the room service foods and any of their restaurants, and, in my opinion, is a great plus point. The room service foods were very well prepared from my point of view.

Besides, speaking of strawberry farms, there are actually two within walking distance from EQ.(and in fact, i shall say it's just at the doorsteps of EQ). Sadly, Kea farm IS indeed a really boring place, be it shopping or sightseeing. However, Brinchang town isn't very far from that site(though you'll need a car or cab to reach the town)and it has most of the things that one will demand for, i.e; banks, restaurants and strawberry farms. However, most of the banks are situated at tanah rata instead of Brinchang and the only bank that came into my sight in Brinchang was Public Bank. CIMB Bank and Hong Leong bank are situated at Tanah Rata.

I've not stayed at Century Pines yet, krishan. But EQ's hospitality shouldn't let you down, i enjoyed their service very much. They even complimented us a birthday cake when we stayed there on my hubby's birthday. That's a norm in most of these ''international'' hotels but well, i enjoyed it a lot so i think you should(at least) give it a try.

Happy Holidays!

Re:equatorial hotel or Century Pines? - 2008/06/27 21:42 Equatorial Hotel maybe bigger and even consists of more facilities (even swimming pool) than Century Pines Resort but cleanliness wise, Century Pines Resort is better than Equatorial Hotel. This is because Century Pines Resort is newer than Equatorial Cameron and since Century Pines Resort is smaller than Equatorial Cameron Highlands, it is much more easier to take care of. Vegetarian food wise, the you might have to go to Water Cress Valley in Kea Farm area if you really want to eat some vegetarian hot pot (steamboat), or else you can even find vegetarian food in T-cafe, but some of the so called vegetarian food there got onions, spring onions, garlic or garlic chives which is a big no no to some pure vegetarians. Or you can try to look for Indian food shop that sells Indian vegetarian food in Tanah Rata and Brinchang. Have a nice day in Cameron Highlands!

Re:equatorial hotel or Century Pines? - 2008/06/28 00:29 Dear jeffrey, i'm sorry as i can't help but to disagree with your statement regarding the cleanliness of EQ. Being huge and hard to manage doesn't automatically qualify it as a badly managed one..you always have some smart management teams in those hotels(and that's what they are there for). This is a really biased talk, i'm aware(because i never stay in Century Pines), but i seriously didn't find EQ dirty, in any sense or, in any of my stay. The car park could smell a little(due to the birds' droppings)but i noticed it's improved quite a lot in my last visit. Rooms-wise, i have to say it's the best that one could ask for, everything's clean and well arranged. The only thing that i was slightly dissatisfied was the maintenance of the sewage system and the piping etc. The water wasn't flowing well but that didn't bother me much.(since the water was still, at least, flowing and not completely stagnant or something)

You can also find some restaurants in Brinchang serving pure, organic vegetables for the steamboat meals on request.(well, actually all the restaurants wouldn't mind serving you with a vegetarian version of steamboat). My hon is a vegetarian(but he takes garlic and onions)and they seemed to be very fast on their feet whenever they heard the word ''vegetarian'' being mentioned. I'm speaking from experience here-they replaced all the fish balls and chicken slices to those made of starch without hesitation. Just a thought: You'll be charged with the same price even if you request for a vegetarian steamboat meal, so that means they'll probably gain more profit as it's a universal truth that, starch is definitely cheaper than the meat products. I'm quite sure they'd idolise you for requesting for that.

Hope this little piece of advice helps. And, please don't take this as an offense, Jeffrey, especially regarding the vegetarian food bit. Vegetarians/vegans have my respect, just like how my vegetarian hon does.

Re:equatorial hotel or Century Pines? - 2008/06/28 11:05 From my experience, most of the rooms in Equatorial Hotel are quite pungent with the "smell of the room" (you know what I mean) and Century Pines room is not so smelly. Even the bedsheet and comforter in Equatorial Hotel room has heavier smell than the bedsheet and comforter in Century Pines Resort. Well, anyway, I wish you all the best in Cameron Highlands.

Re:equatorial hotel or Century Pines? - 2008/07/01 01:43 Pungent? I think that'll be the last word that i'd ever use to describe the rooms in Equatorial. The smell wasn't as bad as how you described. It smelled clean to me, though not exactly pleasant.

Re:equatorial hotel or Century Pines? - 2008/07/01 11:05 Dear Kong,

At least you know the smell in Equatorial Hotel room is not pleasant, aren't you??

Re:equatorial hotel or Century Pines? - 2008/07/01 22:51 Not exactly pleasant, as how i put it in my previous post. So,strictly speaking it is at the borderline of being pleasant and unpleasant. LOL!(didn't matter much to me)

Anyway, pungent isn't the best word to describe that smell, or maybe it varies from person to person due to its subjectivity.

Clarification: The room itself doesn't smell, it's the bed sheet and stuff.
