my stay @ the Equatorial - 2008/01/05 14:17 hello folks,

my girlfriend and i stayed overnight at the equatorial hotel from 22-23 december. it was peak season, and we booked the deluxe room and paid about MYR440+. we also requested for a king sized bed (no charge) and a nice view overlooking the greenery of camerons (beautiful at night!).

location: 5-10 mins drive from tanah rata town, so its quite ok (for those driving up camerons i would recommend the simpang pulai route, where you will end up at brinchang. less winding road but slighty longer journey and less treacherous)

the room: it was adequately sized, not too small or too big, JUST nice. Bed was extremely comfortable, with everything clean and smelling ok except for one of the pillows which had a small stain (which we later requested for a change). cooling during the day, chilly during the night. tho i have to mention that at night, we could hear children running up and down the corridor, which means the doors are not really sound-proof.

hotel food: we made use of our MYR100 food voucher at the restaurant. i ordered spaghetti carbonara, mushroom soup and hot chocolate while my girlfriend ordered sandwiches with peppermint tea. girlfriend said hers is ok, but i HAVE to complain about my orders. soup is rich with spices and volume but lack in taste. the same goes to the carbonara, smells better than it tasted (has crab meat, chicken slices and other spices).plus, the hot chocolate came cold! and we were entertained by the next door clubhouse's singers, who were very loud and off-key with some of popular tunes they sang, so my girlfriend and i quickly finished up and left. also note that if you do not spend exceeding a certain amount they will waiver about half the voucher from your hotel fees (if i'm not wrong)

service: this is the one thing that i would commend highly; the hospitality of their staff. during dinner or check in/out, their staff are always smiling, pleasant and gentle with everything, very professional. so expect good service if you plan on spending a night or two in the equatorial.

summary: to conclude, the overall experience at the equatorial is comfortable and enjoyable. while service and stay is great, there is still room for improvement for the hotel food (or maybe i just didn't order the right thing!) tanah rata is not far away and for meals, as far as my comment holds, i will venture to town for more tasty food.

my rating: 3.5/5

Re:my stay @ the Equatorial - 2008/01/05 14:27 *i forgot to add that there is ample parking space in the hotel basement, and the fact that they have other facilities (which we didn't know of, thus we didn't try it out) such as the gym and a swimming pool on one of the floors.

Re:my stay @ the Equatorial - 2008/01/19 17:11 Another good thing is eventhough it is not in Tanah Rata or Brinchang, it is close to Kee's Vege/Flower Market, Rose Centre, Bee Farm and Boh's Sg. Palas Tea Plantation. All which is a worth see.
