We left Klang valley on Friday 9/12 about 9.30am. This time the group consists of myself, wifey, beloved son, my parents and my in-laws. We took a slow drive up north and stopped over in Tapah rest area for a quick toilet break. Then we exited at Simpang Pulai and filled the car with petrol before going up.
The drive via Simpang Pulai was smooth with the exception of some road works 1/4 way up. Looks like they are doing another road to replace the old road that could have collapse. Traffic was quite heavy with some impatient drivers overtaking recklessly. Talking about Malaysian drivers . Anyway as we reach the midpoint of the highway, there was some slopes remedial work going on. Had to drive slowly here as there was some road bumps made to slow you down. Did not stop to enjoy the scenery as it was raining. The misty area was not so misty this time.
Reached the Kg Raja junction at about 1.20pm and it took us another 45mins to get to Tanah Rata. Traffic was heavy and some road upgrading works did not help either. Finally reached Tanah Rata at about 2.15pm and the whole town is packed. Had our lunch in Orient Star before checking in. Walked around Tanah Rata and bought some stuff.
Personally I still prefer the old way up. Scenery is nicer. Will take the old way up on my next trip.
We checked in to Heritage Hotel. Booked the place months in advance. Due to the crowd we only managed to get the rooms at 4pm. Rested and took some coffee and snacks before getting ready for our steamboat dinner. Dinner porion was a bit small this time around.
After dinner we went back to our rooms and chit-chatted for a while. Slept only at 2am in the morning. Was watching some movies on Astro....
Had breakfast at the hotel the next day. Proceeded to Sg Palas Plantation. The drive in was ok but at the cafe the parking space was limited. There was a traffic guard at the entrance. Anyway they have prepared ample parking space below but you will need to walk quite a distance up. Still prefer the old cafe. New one does not have any nostalgic ambience. Missed the old cafe.....well anyway had the latest Teachino up there. Nice and creamy. Left the place at about 12.30pm and on the way out the traffic was bad.
Stopped by at some flower centre for a quick visit. Later had lunch at Orient Star again as the other restaurant had some smokers dining there. Went back to the hotel for a short siesta. Both myself and wife took a short drive to check out KHM Strawberry farm at Taman Sedia. Had some ice cream there. Too bad they don't do strawberry shakes anymore. Had some free steamed corn there. Went back to hotel about 6pm. Dinner was western food at the hotel cafe.
The next day was spent having breakfast at the hotel. Checked out the hotel garden at took some photos. Did not manage to do any trekking this time as the weather was not so accomodating this time around.
Well, there are a few places that we missed this time around - T Cafe, Bharat tea cafe and also Habu Boh Tea plantation. Will make those places our next year's project.
Checkout at about 12.30pm and the drive back via SP highway was longer due to the heavy bumper to bumper traffic from Brinchang up to Tringkap and the heavy rain did not help either. Personally I feel the highway authorities should monitor the slopes closely during the rainy season. It can get quite dangerous and messy at certain part of the highway.
Well....my report ends here. |
