KC As long as certain people can make lots on money in a short time approving projects and turning an blind eye on the destruction thats goin on there, nothing will change.

Sustainable development wont work as it only benefits the people in the long term but not the pockets of certain people.

People will only take notice when something big happens and its in the news. After a while everything is quiet till the next cycle begins. Sadly this is our Malaysian culture in and happens in everything from natural resources to how we build buildings. Our country is heading for destruction but a lot of people are blinded by the "shows" by the big guns.

Will this change?

J.M. Read After further consideration, I am of the above opinion that catergorisation in any classes is useless if 1 party can re-catergorize anything within their whim and fancy.

Furthermore, we touch about sustainable developement. What exactly does this words means and would the authorities really know what is required to be done on this topic about sustainable development? I would love to hear some good answers about this.

Like all things in life, rescources is scarce and if inefficient utilization of rescources is the game at the end of the day, please dont even think about sustainable development. Perhaps these words are used to blurr one's vision. Keep your eyes on the ball, is the name of the game!

Cheers

J.M. Read Hi all,

Here's my 2 cents worth!

Dream on everyone if you intend the government to catch on the idea of National Park or whatever park, not as long the existing government is in power.

Look at all the places throughout M'sia, the beautiful limestone hills in Ipoh, the beautiful beaches along Melaka, "forest reserve" in many places etc are going or have all long gone.

You can shout, you can pray, you can do whatever you want but nothing is going to stop the on-going development that is happening IF the authorities are not serious about it. Why should they be serious about it, when there is revenue to be generated from development.

Remember the statement STOP HILLSLOPES DEVELOPMENT! These developments are still going on and people are swallowing it gullibly and still nothing can be done. The authorities must be very weak, since no action is taken after the "rebuke" from the PM. Perhaps they are taking us all for a ride.

Now the only way to ever protect or conserve CH in the long term is definately not via the existing government but via Trust or Foundation created by the rakyat & this is not managed by anyone or party from the government. Funds collected via fund raising will be used exclusively in the procurement & maintenance of virgin forest surrounding CH and the Trust of Foundation will be SOLE custodian and managers of estate. This will ensure the long term sustainability of the environment.

Ironically this should all be done by the powers that be, whom we have given our vote in the last general election. However, it seems this has failed and like all things in Malaysia will continue to fail on an on-going basis. For example issues with dirty public toilets, maintenance free culture, speeding buses and many more trivial issues which should have been resolved decades ago and we have not even touched on economics etc yet. Perhaps it is time for a smarter government to come in power to serve & protect the interest of the rakyat, and not some other party.

Cheers

Kien According to IUCN (1994), there are several categories of protected area, National park - which is classified as Caterory II, is protected area managed mainly for ecosystem protection and recreation.

Thus, is CH going to be nominated as a 'National Park'? Or Protected area category IV (protected landscape - protected area managed mainly for landscape conservation and recreation) or category V (managed resource protected area - protected area managed mainly for the sustainable use of natural ecosystem).

They are DIFFERENT!!! National park is more to conserve flora and fauna such as Taman Negara. While the latters are more to sustainble development.
